My self-summary
I'm easy-going and a little old-fashioned. Also reasonably intelligent and good-natured. I lived in Europe (Romania, Belgium, Germany and England) for most of the last 13 years, lived in New York until last year, then moved out west to the Bay Area for graduate school.

This website, in its wisdom, thinks that I am "aggressive, spiritual and adventurous," which I guess would make me some kind of medieval crusader? I don't know if I'm flattered by the comparison.
What I’m doing with my life
PhD candidate in History, brand new to the West Coast. Decided five years of college and a master's weren't enough, I guess.
I’m really good at
Reading, writing, arguing about subjects that interest me. I have a decent singing voice too, and enjoy running.

I am NOT, however, good at taking pictures of myself (see profile).
The first things people usually notice about me
I tend to strike people as somewhat reserved.

But I'm not.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Lord of the Rings, The Quincunx, Burmese Days, Beowulf, The Aeneid, The Name of the Rose, East of Eden, Absalom Absalom!, The Brothers Karamazov, Song of Ice and Fire.

I'm woefully illiterate when it comes to modern authors.

Film: True Grit, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The (Original) Pink Panther, The Departed, Star Wars, Canadian Bacon, In the Loop, The Big Lebowski

TV: The Wire, Mad Men, Frasier, The Office, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Battlestar Galactica

Music: almost anything.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, Family, Music, Books, Scotch, My passport.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
History, Politics, Literature, Music, Travel to far-away places, learning foreign languages.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hopefully at a bar with friends. Very original.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Besides being on this website in the first place? I created this account when I was an undergrad on a whim, and promptly forgot about it. Last year I decided to give it a try and discovered I was stuck with this ridiculous username. Please don't judge me for it. It means 'of kings' in Greek. I think. I was going through a phase.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–30
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
I sound like somebody you'd care to meet over a drink somewhere.
