My self-summary
Hello! I'm Nick. Nice to make your digital acquaintance. :-)

I'm a recording engineer, as well as a lifelong musician (a bassist). Aside from my skills in the classical and jazz genres, I am also an avid metalhead. I like to find ways to play all three genres at the same time.

I'm originally from Virginia, but I'm not a southern guy, aside from my taste in food and my relative intolerance for cold water at the beach.

I'm quite geeky and, on top of my love for all things music (well, almost) and technology, I am a big fan of sci-fi. I also love video games, PC and PS3 games specifically. Yes, I do go to conventions when I can.

(3/1/14) I'm two weeks into a weight-loss program, based on following macros (iifym.com, if you're wondering), and I'm hoping to lose 40 pounds by the end of the year (ideally, by the end of summer). I'm struggling a bit right now, but I'm hoping to turn that around soon. Getting my diet under control is my first priority, and it's tough as a lover of food in general. Encouragement and helpful suggestions are always appreciated!

I am gifted/cursed with perfect pitch, but I won't make a big deal about it.

Weird is a strange word. A point for you if you know why.

I have a tendency to speak my mind, so be prepared. Life is too short to not be honest.

I'm continuously crafting my sense of sarcasm, and I love quoting movies and comedians.

I am witty, genuine, and random
What I’m doing with my life
I'm currently working as a Digital and A/V Tech for Resorts World Casino in Queens. Eventually, I hope to teach music/recording arts at the university level, work in film/tv post-production, be the recordist for a major venue or theater, and to have a regular performing gig on the side. I'm hoping if I play my cards right, I can get all of this done in the next five years.

I have a Bachelors of Music in Double Bass Performance and a minor in Jazz Studies from Christopher Newport University. I'm currently finishing my Master of Music in Music Technology at NYU.
I’m really good at
Performing/writing/arranging/recording music, video post-production, computers, photography, random/useless trivia. I plan my spontaneity. I'm also really good at staying busy, as my schedule doesn't allow for much down time. I wouldn't have it any other way, just as long as I'm learning something and making new friends.
The first things people usually notice about me
...or so people tell me, my eyes. :)

I have somewhat of a goofy laugh. It was described to me once as "...the most simultaneously genuine and fake belly laugh ever."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies: original Star Trek movies (1-4; 6-10), Star Trek: Into Darkness (it's actually number 12), Star Wars Episodes IV-VI, Three Stooges, Marx Brothers, Jackass (all), Training Day, Baseketball, Indiana Jones (except Crystal Skull), Braveheart, The Patriot, Road House, Heat, The Saint, Batman (all except George Clooney), Apollo 13, 3:10 to Yuma, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Books: Wuthering Heights, Grapes of Wrath, Outliers. I need to read more often.

Music: Mostly everything - no modern pop or contemporary christian, some country is good - Dream Theater, Periphery, Mudvayne, Vertical Horizon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jaco Pastorius, Dave Holland, Charles Mingus, Christian McBride, and Dave Brubeck. I'm a huge fan of barbershop singing (prefer male quartets, but I love quartets of both/mixed sexes). Also a big fan of (in no particular order) Palestrina, Gesualdo, Bach, Vivaldi, Corelli, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bottesini, Wagner, Mahler, Strauss, Debussy, Ravel, Scriabin, Schonberg, Bartok, Chopin, Stravinsky, Barber, Bloch, Whitacre, and Mackey, to name a few.

Food: Natural citrus/berries and citrus/berry-flavored foods, chocolate, sushi, cheese. I have a particular fondness for Italian, Mexican, and Asian cuisine.
The six things I could never do without
Contacts/glasses (I'm blind without them).
My basses/guitars/drums
Recording gear/microphones (this includes a computer)
Family, friends, and the good times they bring.
A camera (still or video)
Lip balm (I have dry skin, so this is a must have)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Music, my future, video games, money, bettering myself, funny/random stuff

Also, if I'm going to NYCC next year as Dr. Daniel Jackson again.
On a typical Friday night I am
Recording, gigging, practicing, working on my Master's thesis, hanging out, and/or sleeping so I can have an awesome Saturday. I just go with the flow and see what adventures are in store for the night!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a sucker for blue or green eyes, and freckles.

I enjoy watching/listening to ASMR videos on YouTube.

GGG.

I am ultimately looking for a relationship. I don't want waste either of our time, if we're not heading in the same direction.

To paraphrase a bit from the writer Sarah Jones (and because I very much agree): I want a woman who is smart, strong, and is their own person - who has dignity and won't give it all away. I want a woman who values self-containment, self-reliance, and self-empowerment. Beyond the physical, THIS is what I consider sexy.

I'm also looking for someone who knows where they're going in life and how to get there (if you aren't already there), who doesn't play games, is willing to accept me for my eccentricities, and has a great sense of humor. If you are caring, compassionate, non-judgmental, geeky/nerdy (a big plus, but not required), and looking to be with someone who is also trying to make sense of this crazy world we live in, while doing so with a big heart and an open mind, you're just the person I'd love to get to know.

You're looking for someone to introduce to the Doctor (I've never seen a single episode).

You love music and many assorted forms of nerd/geekiness.

If you can, tastefully, pull off the tights and shorts look (tall order; I know).

If you are a person who can think of nothing better to do on a day off than to sit at the beach, play guitar, and hang out with your friends.

If you're still reading, would like to know more, and/or meet up sometime, the send button won't push itself. :-)
