I am taking things easy, giving no fuck, and newly medicated.
My Self-Summary
I've historically been drawn to pretty eccentric and off-kilter
people, and quite frankly I don't see anything wrong with
continuing that trend. Currently my weekend life is gaining more
and more momentum as really worth living, thanks to quite a few
excellent new friends and drinking partners.
I like the following things:
inappropriate humor
(sometimes at my own expense), classic American animated slapstick
comedy, the modern kitsch of
Lucha Libre, the struggle of new
technology against paranoid old men,
skee-ball, black and white photo
booths, underground
rock music and the artistic and
creative use of the distortion pedal, the eternal search for
great beer, and
the craft and enjoyment of
barbecued meats.
What I’m doing with my life
Working on the weeknights. Finding that life can be pretty awesome
on the weekends.
At random times you can find me doing a few other things:
-exploiting and making fun of the internet.
-cracking my voice by singing way too hard for fake musical
performance in a video game.
-talking about finding my stability to friends and
professionals.
-medicating to help augment discussed stability.
-attempting to prevent my own car from killing me dead.
-ogling European cars via
Top Gear reruns. (which is probably why
my car is trying to kill me dead)
-taking apart and putting together computers.
-searching for rampant pirate radio broadcasts.
-connecting dots on 15 years of song fragments from my head, in
hopes of having something that passes as music sometime down the
road.
-chasing down the wild goose of unconventional yet effective
physical fitness.
-making lists.
I’m really good at
Here's a short list:
-laughing at anything and everything.
-crafting delicious homemade burgers.
-bar trivia skills, even when drunk.
-making lists.
Also here's a short list of things I WANT to be really good at
someday:
-rocking a lefty Danelectro in the indie-pop tradition.
-deep sea fishing.
-crafting the most excellent barbecue.
-running a brew pub for gamers.
The first things people usually notice about me
They probably notice the ridiculously stiff neck. Thanks, fused
vertebrae, and thank you, hit and run driver!
Also, when people see me writing something, I get the whole
southpaw curiosity thing. Apparently, we are all from outer
space.
As far as physical features, my eyes tend to get the most mad
props.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Douglas Adams, travel guides, screenplays, beatnik poetry,
essay collections about good games and bad music and ugly movies, a
handful of webcomic anthologies.
Movies: Favorites are Putney Swope, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow,
Escape 2000, Punch-Drunk Love, Crank 2, The Room (such a terrible
movie it loops right back around into being a classic film), Six
String Samurai, Road House (with or without Rifftrax treatment),
The Limey, Husbands, Mystery Train, The Decline of Western
Civilization, Pierrot Le Fou, This is Spinal Tap, Back to the
Future, Rosemary's Baby, Destroy All Monsters, Jackie Brown, the
Thin Man movies, Barton Fink, Henry Fool, and an infinite amount of
others. I've seen too many movies, thanks to working in a video
store for 2 years.
Music:
My Last.fm can
tell you more than I ever could.
Guided by Voices is my favorite rock band of all time. Three of my
ten favorite albums are by The Fall circa 1981 to 1985. "Time" by
Richard Hell gets stuck in my head than any other song. If i was to
ever produce an animated series for grown-ups, I'd hire Super Furry
Animals to do the soundtrack. I have inexplicable adoration for
70's German psychedelic rock, violent Jamaican dancehall reggae,
and angry political R&B of the late 60's and early 70's, among
MANY other things.
Food: Pub grub, barbecued anything, breakfast foods, southern
cooking (sans collard greens) - at least, that's my comfort zone,
but I can be coaxed into straying out with a bit of effort. At
least, as long as it's not fake meats - ick.
I sometimes partake in the actual enjoyment of beer as well, as
opposed to drinking beer to get drunk, for which I happily rely on
cider. I'm a big fan of many ales and stouts, lagers not so much
(the incomprehensible Yuengling Black and Tan being a recent
exception). On this note if you have a favorite unknown microbrew
you'd like me to try, bring it here and I'll give it a whirl.
The six things I could never do without
a USB microphone
a delicious medium rare steak and a pint of yuengling b&t
an internet capable device (these days, an iphone - not for
communication so much but for infinite resource when needed)
whatever my favorite music is at the time
my little blue friend Adderall
weekends at dive bars
a second player for Contra
Someday, I hope to replace one of these items with a Fiat 500
Abarth SS, and I'll be more than happy to point that out should we
get into car talk.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
-the way things are
-the way things were
-Eleanor Bron
-a lucky charm
-the needle
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm usually inflicting even more cruelty upon the earth and its'
blameless fauna, while silently ensuring delivery of exploitative
consumerist bounties to the white devils of the evil empire of
America.
(This means I'm working.)
Saturdays and Sundays are my dive bar nights lately. I take up bar
space at a couple of spots in midtown, so ask where if you want to
track me down or avoid me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I wrote bad faux-hipster poetry in college. Really bad poetry. I
will never share it, as it is much like worst song, played on
ugliest guitar.
As far as relevant to right now - following a few years of trauma
and chaos, I'm just now finally figuring out how to enjoy life and
the company of others without freaking out over worst case
scenarios too much. It feels pretty good, let me tell you.
You should message me if
you would like someone to drink with or geek out over many of the
things that i express interest with or to trade all your favorite
musics with or someone to be smug at the world with. And maybe we
can figure out a few more things to do, but let's just start with
not-so-complex things first.
