I am physically active, a tenor, and an intellectual.

My Self-Summary

I am a scientist and a professor. When I am not working you can probably find me either singing or hiking up a mountain.

I'm a tenor and sing in three musical groups, one in NY city. Music is a large part of my life. I play a little piano and classical guitar. I have been the recording engineer of a few live concerts and have mixed and mastered several private CD's.

I definitely have a bit a wild side and would love for that to be shared as well (not tamed...). I am definitely looking for someone that can share either my love of the outdoors or my passion for music. Ideally you would share both.

Life is too short to be filled with unnecessary drama, so if your a drama queen, please move on.

What I’m doing with my life

During the academic year I spend a great deal of time doing research, teaching and grading papers. However I still make time for staying in shape, winter hiking, singing and just enjoying life.

The other 22 weeks a year are much more relaxed. I'll still be doing research, singing etc. But there is more time to have fun outdoors. My research gives me the opportunity to travel, something I enjoy a lot. Believe it or not, not everyone wants to travel, I do. I have enjoyed solo travel, but think it would be a lot more fun as a couple. I'll let you know when I find out. Better yet I'll let you know on the trip!

I have an established career so I can afford to work to live, I don't live to work. I enjoy my job and find it very meaningful. I love doing research, but I also like climbing mountains! So if you have bought into the American "work to you drop" mentality, we are a poor match. However the other extreme (what me work?) is just as bad...

I’m really good at

I might just challenge your stereotypes of scientists. Yes, I am good at math (part of being a physicist). Yes, I can be logical. However I am also a musician, with all the emotion that tends to go with that. Mr Spock I am not....

I love being physically active. I am not a sprinter however, I am more into endurance. Hiking, especially up mountains, is perhaps my best sport. I am also a good swimmer. I used to really good in the back of a canoe. I am hoping to learn to shoot rapids in a Kayak this summer [did that and want to do more of it]. Care to join me?

If there is a crisis, you want me around; on the trail, in the lab, in the water or at home. In a crisis situation I'm the guy that does what needs to be done and then handles the issues that arise later.

I am good at designing and building things; comes with being both and engineer and a physicist.

I have a good tenor voice and have sung in many choirs and a few times solo with an orchestra (as part of a larger work).

The first things people usually notice about me

Tell me when we meet.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Isn't this the kind of thing you discuss on the first date, or am I being old-fashioned (wouldn't be the first time). Come to think of it, this is a discussion that could go on endlessly.

Some hints:

You will find that I love to read a wide variety of subjects; fantasy, poetry, classics, science, philosophy, history, genealogy, theology, etc. On the end table next to my reading chair right now are books on Hiking, Math, science, philosophy, a book by Thomas Merton (New Seeds of Contemplation), and an adventure novel. Yes I am reading them all, yes I will in fact finish them all. There are times when I will start a book and not put it down until it is done, or I fall asleep in the chair.

I like most movies as long as they are not too preachy and have some plot holding them together. I escepcially like science fiction and adventure/romance.

Like most music that's well done (esp. classical, Jazz and folk). Most of the music I perform is classical and choral. However most of the music I listen to isn't classical. Hint: Who is Amy Grantm Phil Keaggy? Then there is Joni Mitchell... Both spend a lot of time in the CD player.

I love musical theater have been on stage, but not in a while...

I grew up on and like basic New England type food. I especially like FRESH sea food. But I love to explore different types of cuisine.

The six things I could never do without

Music
Good Coffee
Fine food and red wine
Good conversations
Being outside
Family and friends

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My students.... (during the academic year)

My (adopted) children (currently an empty nester, but long story)

How I'm going to spend my summer (when I'm not in my lab)

Wondering what the future holds, which of my dreams are going to come true and which are destined to fade away.

On a typical Friday night I am

I'm not sure there is a "typical Friday night"...

When school is in session.. depends...

When school is not in session .. having fun with friends or on a date. Almost never routine...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm near the end (I hope) of a long divorce process after a 20+ year marriage. What remains is mostly paperwork and waiting. The hearing is is set for Jan 19th. once we finally get the courts attention all that remains (should be) the courts paperwork..

You should message me if

You should be living a healthy lifestyle (no drugs, no smoking, get some sort of exercise, eat healthy most of the time).

You should have seen enough life that you have experienced both some real highs and lows and yet still have a positive outlook to the future. You should know how to enjoy life and yet have balance in your life.

I am looking for a relationship that has some shared interests, but also individual interests. We don't have to share everything, but you should enjoy outdoor activities and like to travel.
