My Self-Summary

I'm friendly and I like to try new things. Music is ever present and varied in my life--I'll backup your music collection if you'll take mine. Bicycle riding is my future, not jetpacks. I'd especially like to meet potential bike excursion partners, in San Francisco and abroad. I travel a lot, and am generally in a few different cities or countries per month. I really like it when my friends come with me. Stockholm for Halloween and Berlin for New Years! Come with me?

I love reading; it is a great joy in my life. I value intense self-education. I've been reading a lot about Cryptography lately, but I also read other sciences, biographies, fiction and philosophy. I also enjoy writing, and there was a recent time when I did it daily. I'm really interested in the German language. It has been a passionate hobby of mine for the better part of a decade; I really should shape up and become fluent already. Perhaps we can practice and learn together?

I think that I'm mildly kinky and kink is not shameful, it's a point of pride. I think that playing with fire is good fun, both figuratively and literally. I'm generally polyamorous, but I'm comfortable with monogamy in serious relationships.

I'm an Anarchist and a vegan, but not in the irrational, blind idealist sense of either one. I can't stand those guys either. I really like coconut sorbet on a warm day. I love my fujiroid (wide format spontaneous photography is great!). And I'm an incorrigible cuddleslut.

What I’m doing with my life

I like to create beautiful photos.

I spend a lot of my time working on projects that interest me. Sometimes it's analog art and sometimes its electric. I am lucky enough to be paid to work on things that I care deeply about. I often speak about these things in front of large crowds. I spend a lot of my time in the creative process. This year I've flown more than sixty times and crossed a lot of borders in service of my ideal of enabling free speech and expression in repressive countries. I live an intense life and I enjoy sharing it.

I'm really deeply in love with photography--I give my photographs away to the Free Culture movement with no strings attached.

I've accomplished some things that make me proud. I'm certain that it was only by the grace of my friends, lovers and co-workers. I've published academic research papers but I'm not a part of the academy.

I've lived in Canada on and off over the last five years. I enjoyed living in Vienna, Austria for a winter. I try to travel abroad as often as possible and lately, it's been pretty possible.

I’m really good at

I really enjoy making photographs of people that inspire me.

Making interesting things happen is a hobby. Sometimes all it takes is introducing the right people, and I'm good at that. Sometimes it's a matter of evangelizing for causes that I find important, and I'm good at that as well.

A variety of things should occur with regularity and spontaneity.

The first things people usually notice about me

My ink and metal are subtle but eye catching. I'm a charismatic dreamer; sometimes I play the role of a leader. I enjoy asking questions. I'm told that my intensity can be striking, but my compassion and empathy temper it. My German language skills improve in proportion to my cocktail consumption.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

The Dispossessed is my current favorite fictional novel: I'm a fan of Anarchist Utopian planets. Arthur C. Clarke's stories made me think of life on a universal scale when I was still provincially minded. I'm currently enjoying Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! I wish I could travel the universe and not just our little planet..

Låt den rätte komma in is a favorite non-English foreign film. Die Fetten Jahr sind vorbei was inspiring. The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover is romantic and reminds me of happy times. Gattaca reminds me of our probable impending future with a seductive soundtrack.

Sadly, many of the musical groups I enjoy are broken up and the stars are long since dead. Recently, I saw the San Francisco symphony perform Gustav Mahler's first symphony; I found it riveting. I hope Einstürzende Neubauten plays in San Francisco again. I missed Elliot Smith while he was living but I did have a chance to see The Knife. The Beatles remind me of childhood. Steve Reich knows how to score a film and Phillip Glass is often on repeat. I spy on myself with LastFM.

I enjoy Vegan foods from every corner of the planet.

The six things I could never do without

My internal organs together count as at least one thing out of the six, I'm certain of it. The other five things vary by activity. I really love my bicycle. The art on the walls of my house helps to keep me in a state of self actualization. My laptop connects me to the wider world. I often carry a bag and it almost always has two books, one for each side of my brain. I'm fond of my Japanese motorcycle but lately I've been neglecting it for airplanes.

Oh and my cameras. I have twenty.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Foiling dictators and evading repression. To that end, I'm interested in anonymity and work full time on privacy-preserving systems. I think about free speech and society. I strive to be a reasonable and thoughtful person. When I find boundaries, I push myself above and beyond them.

On a typical Friday night I am

I like to make art and cause productive mischief. I enjoy movies and I generally avoid television. I listen to a lot of music and lately I've been enjoying reading on my sofa. I don't really divide my life into weekdays and weekends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I vote by mail. I'm an Anarchist who votes. I also think that's funny.

You should message me if

You're a (kink and/or vegan-friendly redhead) smarty pants who enjoys photography-themed bicycle rides--especially rides that start and end with sushi!
