One of my closest friends describes me as the coolest person she
knows who is clueless about pop culture. I suppose many dichotomies
exist in my life: I write well, but I don't read nearly enough; I
am personable and outgoing, but I like to be on my own a lot; I
have great cookware, but I rarely prepare meals at home; I spend a
lot of time in bars, but I rarely drink, and the list goes
on.
I love music. You can find me in pubs, at clubs, listening to symphonies, operas, and concerts. My interests are vast. I enjoy singer/songwriter music, folk, Irish, WXRT, instrumental, roots, etc. I take lessons (currently guitar) at the Old Town School of Folk Music, where I am a student, volunteer, member and donor. I am proud of my involvement at the School. (I take my interests seriously.)
I am a committed left-winger. I try to be open-minded about a lot of things, including politics. This means that I will listen to your opinions with interest, but I won't necessarily agree with them.
I am very interested in the arts in general. You will never have to twist my arm to get me to attend a gallery opening, museum special collection, dance recital, theatre performance, film, or concert. I have enough knowledge to converse about art, but I still have the wonder of experiencing it for the first time.
Many people are surprised how much I like to watch sports. I can get completely wrapped up in watching a great tennis match. I love basketball. Baseball is not boring. Hockey is fun. I sincerely invite you to teach me about American football. For some reason I've managed to live in this country for more than 40 years without ever learning how football works. I guess I didn't try hard enough. Educate me please!
Travel. Don't get me started. I tend to be a bit impulsive about flying around the planet. Whenever I can rub two pennies together I buy a ticket. Admittedly, I am not much of an adventure traveler (although that could be argued, depending how you define "adventure"). I am not much of a relaxer either -- my beach tolerance is limited -- but I don't always need to go to a big city on vacation either.
