What I’m doing with my life

it's now been a year in nyc. moved here from texas last October at the onset of the economic tomfoolery. rather than battle the other starving graphic designers I opted to try something new, and I'm now halfway through cosmetology school and hope to be chopping hair and being a general badass once again very soon.

I’m really good at

playing for keeps. appreciating life. shooting the moon. sarcasm. people watching. arm-wrestling. getting lost. spontaniety.

The first things people usually notice about me

southern charm

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I used to own a bookstore. And read all the time. Now, not so much. I've been swept-up in the ny minute, buried beneath a heap of hair this year. When I have a spare moment, I read mags (dwell, interview, surface and lots of Japanese ones that I can't understand for ispiration) to just stay human. I love biographies, historical quests and buried treasures, Russian lit, and the many incarnations of the great American novel.

I watch a ton of movies. titles I can watch over and over again include: an american werewolf in london, the outsiders, black cat white cat, in america, in the name of the father, haunted honeymoon, big trouble in little china, edward scissorhands, city of lost children, the princess bride, raising arizona, finding nemo, monsters inc., wild at heart, fiddler on the roof... I like documentaries, surrealist cinema, cartoons, and pretty much anything not starring dane cook

music: james brown, wu-tang clan, celebration, spiritualized, the black heart procession, devo, pixies, the cramps, david bowie, the birthday party, nick cave, blonde redhead, bob log, gang of four, the fall, the stooges, the raveonettes, stereolab, talking heads, my bloody valentine, the cure, notorious b.i.g., can, the dandy warhols, prince, johnny cash, the police, fela kuti, kool keith, rachels, tricky, massive attack, geto boys, rolling stones, sonic youth, pj harvey, bjork, rose murphy, the smiths, lou reed, mos def, portishead

food: mexican, italian and sweets

The six things I could never do without

laughter, showers, sex, music, jeans and tees

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Hair. The origins and absurdity of vanity. The immortals. The bungled and the botched. How we miss the beauty in the imperfect. Act 2.

On a typical Friday night I am

Rearranging hair

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I like football. There I said it. (go broncos!)
