My self-summary
I moved to Portland from Wisconsin in 2011 because I felt it was time to finally get out here and start anew. So far, things are going well, and I'm establishing a pretty comfortable life. And I always felt that experiencing things with the right person/people made things better.
I'm not necessarily looking ONLY for a romantic relationship. If things are more suited for friendship, I'm not the type to get emotional and profess my love like life is one big Nicholas Sparks movie. I carry myself like a man, and I act accordingly.
I'm into a pretty wide variety of activities. If I'm not at work or asleep, mostly you'll find me reading, writing, playing guitar, or adventuring. I like the city life, but I'm also a fan of getting away for a weekend and going camping, as well as rafting/climbing/hiking/biking.
I do enjoy wandering and discovering new places downtown. I'm really into music, so I try to attend a show/concert at least once a month.
An individual showing respect and compassion for others turns me on. Not in a sexual way. I've done it, I continue to do it, and I don't like rude people. I'm kind of like Hannibal Lecter like that, only I don't eat people. Because that's just flat out rude. In short, if you're a mean person or use "retard" or "gay" as an insult or in any other similar negative context, I'm not going to be wasting much more of my time talking to you.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently, I'm spending most of my time working during the week, and going out on the weekends. Going to attend classes in the spring.
I’m really good at
Correct use of the Oxford comma, as well as punctuation. Seriously, if you type in meme speak, I'm going to assume you are an autistic sociopath from a foreign country who speaks only broken English. A little mean, I know, but I like reading to INCREASE my intelligence, not lower it.
The first things people usually notice about me
It's a mix of either my height, my eyes (bright green/blue mix), or my tattoos (current count is six: two music-related on my left forearm, tri-force on my right wrist, a Ben Templesmith piece on my neck, a fountain pen on my right forearm, and a keyboard [not finished yet] on my right side)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Before I start listing my favorite books, I want to make one thing clear: literature is a very serious passion for me. I am pursuing a career in writing with greater frequency as the years go on, and I use a quote by John Waters as a basis of life: "We need to make books cool again. If you go home with someone and they don't own any books, don't fuck them". I broke that rule once. The relationship was entirely one sided. It is one of two mistakes I do not intend on repeating.
That being said, here are a few of my favorites:
Most Chuck Palahniuk (especially 'Survivor'), 'Hater' by David Moody, 'The Mist' by Stephen King, some Irvine Welsh (my favorite by him is 'Glue'), 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman, 'Heart Shaped Box' by Joe Hill. I enjoyed the two books I've read by Chad Kultgen (The Average American Male/Marriage) with an extreme tongue in cheek.
I also read comics quite regularly. Marvel is killing it right now! I also read/have read most titles by Matt Fraction, Scott Pilgrim series, Sin City, Locke and Key, anything illustrated by Ben Templesmith, 'I Kill Giants', 'The Walking Dead', 'Y: The Last Man', most Jonathan Hickman books... (yeah, I'm a bit of a nerd.)

Movies: mostly horror or independent. I'm a fan of Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, Guillermo del Toro, Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, Sam Raimi... as you probably noticed, I see movies based on who directs them. But I will go see any movie with Gary Oldman or Bruce Campbell in it.
It's not really a requirement that you watch foreign films, but if you do, there is a requirement that you watch them in the original language with the subtitles on.
As far as television: Californication, Weeds, Dexter, The Venture Bros. MST3K, Breaking Bad, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Doctor Who...

The six things I could never do without
My guitars
Typewriter (or other writing implements)
Books
Little things
Music/concerts (tying back into my guitars)
Deep introspective/philosophical discussions
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My next story idea, and any lines that would work in it.
A melody for a good song to write.
What I should do in the next 5 minutes to 5 months.
Honestly, beyond that, I couldn't tell you. My mind races so much, I'm surprised I'm as sane as I am. I keep meaning to sit down with an empty notebook on a day that I have nothing to do and just write down the shit that pops into my head until the book is full. Depending on how fast I can free hand, it should only take about 3 hours.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'll get back to you on this one.
But what I would like to do is go out and make an honest attempt to meet people. Also, try to find those that play any instruments. If you've got a friend who can sound like Kim Deal and plays bass, we should talk.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
(Too bad the heading isn't 'Things', plural)
I still buy CDs. A lot of them. I buy anywhere between 5 and 20 a month.
I'm totally an animal lover, but I'm not too fond of toy dogs. And pugs. In my opinion, the world's smallest dog is a beagle. Anything else is some variation of rodent.
I don't see the necessity for marriage. I agree with the married lifestyle, i.e., kids, house, soccer practice, mortgage, car payments, pets, all that stuff. But I don't see the reason why you NEED to get married to stay with someone.
