My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm sensible, silly, thoughtful, sarcastic. I'm a dancer and a singer and occasionally struggle to remember what other people do with their free time. Expect me to talk your ear off about music or linguistics at least once. I promise I'll calm down about it eventually.

I enjoy intellectual challenge. Thinking about interesting things is fun, but talking about them with other people is way better. I like to follow trains of thought until they become absurd and derail. Imagination and logic go well together.

I'm in a non-primary relationship with a great girl who's married (everybody involved knows & approves), so my dance card is definitely not full. Feel free to ask more if you're curious about that!

Good people and meaningful experiences are more important than material things, but sometimes there is absolutely no substitute for an extremely fuzzy blanket.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I just moved to Northampton after spending some excellent years at a great nonprofit in Philadelphia. Now I have a pretty cool job writing health education materials.

I sing shape-note (Sacred Harp) and other folk/trad-type stuff. I contra dance and morris dance as well. This often involves traveling. Other pursuits include biking, baking, blues dance, wandering about the internet, and watching Netflix.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Smiling. Thinking critically. Navigating public transit. Constructing metaphors. Singing. Dancing.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
One person said that she thought I was the kind of person who would be Edgar Allan Poe for Halloween. I think I'll take that as a compliment?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Favorites include The Cyberiad, The Bean Trees, Life of Pi, whatever I'm reading at the moment.

Music: the more harmony, the better! Traditional vocal music from all over the place (Georgia, the Balkans, Appalachia, South Africa, England), Sacred Harp, roots/folk, Crosby Stills Nash, Beth Patterson, Solas...I could go on and on. At this point, I enjoy listening to music, but I'd rather be making it.

Movies: longtime favorites include Benny & Joon, The Mouse That Roared, Godspell, Awake My Soul. Eclectic is the word of the day.

Food: Garlic, pasta, chocolate, mint, in-season vegetables and fruits (I swear I could eat nothing but peaches all summer). I really enjoy cooking and baking and I try to eat healthfully, but...everything in moderation, including moderation, right?
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Intellectual Stimulation.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Language change, open fifths (music not booze), baking, my future, Deaf issues, chocolate, cooking, sign language poetry, friendship, gender identity and sexual identity, good webcomics, relationships, cider, power dynamics, Grover Cleveland (see: fuzzy blankets), consent, hard questions, deadlines, choices, sleep, and probably some other things too.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Traveling to a Sacred Harp singing/dance weekend/festival, hanging out with friends, watching movies, drinking tea, singing, or a combination of these.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I think toothpaste tastes really good.

...or you want to get together over coffee (or tea, or popsicles) and logically figure through the implications of an impossible idea that's totally and utterly absurd

I probably won't write you back if you only send one generic sentence, or if our match percentage is really dismal. Nothing personal - time and emotional energy are limited, you know?
