I am very sarcastic, geeky, and trans.

My Self-Summary

I'm terrible at self-summaries, especially when I'm forced to write them.

Regarding the "describe yourself with three adjectives": I discovered that using the adjective "sarcastic" was either empty or unoriginal. So was the adjective "intelligent". This filled me with sad, because I don't think I've met enough sarcastic, intelligent people.

Here are some words that describe me: queer, geeky, intelligent, feminist, trans, shy, bossy, weird, not a party-goer, generally optimistic, a little judgmental, and poly.

My political views run the gamut from pinko to commie. I like talking politics, religion and social justice. I'm a feminist, and a strong supporter of queer rights. I also speak out against racism, while acknowledging that I still need to work to weed out racism that I've internalized from living in a racist society.

From a relationship point of view, I have one long-term partner (12 years) and a casual sex partner that I see about once a year while traveling. All of us are poly. Most of my relationships have been with women, but I identify as bi.

I'm probably only interested in romantic/sexual involvement with people who are either queer themselves, or who already consider themselves strong allies of the queer community. Vanilla str8 bois probably aren't my cup o' tea. Extra bonus points to people (friends or otherwise) who grok the fluid nature of gender.

My picture is a few years old. Truth is, I'm older and I've gained some weight since it was taken. But I'm still wearing a beret.

What I’m doing with my life

I work a ten to six job in the professional geek industry, and I like my job (unlike most people I know). I also dabble in a lot of hobbies: movies, books, writing, travel, and chatting with internet froods.

I travel to Haiti a fair amount, and I've been involved in social justice causes for Haiti.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm wearing black.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Mountains Beyond Mountains, The Lathe of Heaven, Tao Te Ching, Neil Gaiman's books, China Miéville

Movies: Casablanca, Annie Hall, Sans Soleil, The Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club. I'm a big fan of film, and enjoy a lot of movies. I've been to the Toronto International Film Festival for the last two years. Some recent films I've liked include: The Prestige, Michael Clayton, and Pan's Labyrinth. I wish more Hollywood films passed the Bechdel Benchmark.

Music: I have more Ani DiFranco than anything else in my collection. I also like Toronto-area folk singers like Jory Nash and Lori Cullen. Evalyn Parry is also a favourite. I'm not really a radio-listener, and I'm out-of-touch with What's Popular Now. Mostly, I notice music when it shows up in movie soundtracks, or if I see a live performance. The soundtracks to The Hours and Solaris are two that I listen to a lot. I also listen to a number of Haitian CDs.

The six things I could never do without

Six things I could never do without: my smartass attitude, molecules, internet connectivity, coffee, interesting conversation and something interesting to read.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Haiti. WisCon. sf. Friends. Cool programming tricks. I also like small-stakes poker, movies, reading and travel.

Actually, I have eclectic tastes.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either I've gone to the local pub with a bunch of my co-workers, where I drink iced tea while we do after-work bonding, or I'm at home with a good DVD.
