I am dedicated, open-minded, and sarcastic.

My Self-Summary

My name is Ian and I'm a nerd who recently graduated from Montana State with a Computer Science degree and a Physics degree. I enjoy listening to lots of kinds of music (except rap and country) and I like playing video and computer games in my free time. I love keeping myself insanely busy. But really, I'm a laid back guy. I have a huge amount of patience and love of listening. I moved to Huntington Beach, CA about a year and a half ago (June 2008) for my job and started my Masters in Computer Science at USC through their distance program. My wife, kamiawolf, and I have an open relationship (polyamory) based on honesty and communication, but neither of us currently have any other partners.

I'm definitely a life long learner - I plan to take classes for quite a while, going for a Masters first, then possibly a finishing up a Certificate program through Carnegie Mellon, then going for a PhD, probably also in Computer Science.

I'm ridiculously technical, but somehow manage to also be good at explaining things in a very non-technical way. I would love to be a college professor (mostly for the teaching aspects, rather than necessarily the research) later in life, but it will probably be a 20+ year goal.

I just learned I'll be moving to Washington DC for my last rotation (Jan-June 2010)! I'm pretty excited about it as it is a great job, although I am less excited about moving away from sunny, warm SoCal :(

What I’m doing with my life

I'm working with Boeing in their ISCFP - Information Systems Careers Foundation Program. It's a rotation program where every 6 months for two years you get to pick a new job. It is a pretty cool program, especially considering that I've gotten to meet a lot of the executives of Boeing and talk to them one on one. As stated above, I started my Masters in Computer Science at USC. It is through the DEN (Distance Education Network), so I only actually go into USC for midterms and finals.

For longer term plans, I'm going to be going back for (a few) advanced degrees - probably an MBA and a Doctorate in Computer Science. Boeing pays for all of the graduate degrees you want, so that'll be pretty sweet. I'd love to be a college professor sometime later in my life, but we'll see.

I’m really good at

Math, Computer Science, listening, multi-tasking, critical thinking, getting my point across concisely and tactfully, and public speaking. I'm attempting to get "really good" at racquetball.

The first things people usually notice about me

I think people tend to notice my eyes first - they definitely change colors from a blue/gray to a brilliant bright blue.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

a) Anything by Michael Crichton or Ray Bradbury. I'm not as much of a reader as I want to be
b) Jurassic Park Series definitely is my favorite movie. I've got most of it memorized by now, even with my bad memory! Although I do enjoy the Pixar movies, Indiana Jones, Aladdin, and just about any romantic comedy.
c) anything really. I'm currently really enjoying Daft Punk, Rihanna, Breaking Benjamin, Pink, Jordin Sparks, The Killers and Tenacious D
d) classic american, sushi, Japanese food, Thai

The six things I could never do without

My wife, the internet, games, food, water, shelter (in that order ;) )

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I spend a lot of time thinking about how I'm going to fit everything in to place. I love puzzles so having so much to do definitely is a challenge all in itself. I think a lot about my wife and I's future, what I want to do, how I can find somewhere that we both want to live and will develop us both, and in general my wife. She means a lot to me and I really just want her to be happy. Balancing both of our needs is something that I really am trying to take in to account more these days.

On a typical Friday night I am

Most Fridays, I am chilling out playing Guild Wars, Aion, or my PS3. Every once and a while I go out to dinner or to a movie with my wife and/or friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

While I am generally a very social person with people I know, I still have a lot of difficulty introducing myself to new people (that includes messaging people on here).

You should message me if

I'm always up for talking to people and meeting new people, especially in the Huntington/Seal/Long Beach area. While I love talking to new people, I'm shy and rarely make the first contact so message me and get the awkward first few words out.

If you play Racquetball, I'm always looking for an opponent/doubles partner!
