kind, intelligent, and nerdy
My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm a nerd, but I have social skills. I'm a teacher, but I'm also a
perpetual student. I'm outgoing, except when I'm shy. I can belt
out showtunes
for hours when I'm alone in my car... but get very nervous if
there's anyone around to hear me sing. I am a cat person, but I am
also a dog person (I hope to have one of each once I'm more
settled.) I'm extremely independent, but I rely heavily on my
friends and family. I strive never to think badly of anyone (but I
make an exception for George W. Bush). I can be somewhat verbose...
unless I don't feel like talking. I'm fiercely loyal to my friends.
I love my family dearly, except when they drive me crazy. I can be
happy for hours just staring into a campfire. It's hard to think
about how to describe myself without coming up with exceptions to
almost everything.
Although I've made the study of physics my life's work, I love to dabble
in other subjects. I wish I had the time and money to get a
bachelors degree in linguistics or anthropology, in addition to my
work on my PhD. My work is really important to me, and takes up a
lot of my time, but it's not my entire life, nor would I want it to
be. I lived in Germany for two years when I was growing up (my mom
sometimes refers to me as her "German daughter") and would love to
have an experience like that again.
I take joy in life, and am looking for someone who does the same.
There are so many wonderful things out there, from roller coasters to
Broadway shows to
waves crashing on the beach, I need someone who will enjoy them
with me!
In my match, I'm looking for someone who also enjoys a wide variety
of things -- from sitting around reading or playing board games to have spirited
discussions about the nature of the physical world, to hiking
through the German Alps, to going out and catching a movie. Someone
who's happy with their position in life, but also willing to strive
for something better. If you're a fan of SF/fantasy literature,
that's a plus. If you'd be willing to try Scottish Country
Dancing, that's also a plus (I'd be willing to try some of your
interests, too!) I want to find someone who adds something to my
life. I'm happy with who I am and what I do; I don't need someone
to "complete me" - but I'd like to have the opportunity to share
life with someone. I guess I'm looking for someone with whom I can
share a mutual respect, and in whose company I take joy. Chemistry
is important, of course... but I think that a real connection of
minds can lead to some of the best physical chemistry.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I recently completed my PhD in physics, but I'm a teacher at heart -- I
taught high school physics for a few years after college, and loved
it, so I went back to school to learn to do it better. Now I
combine teaching
and research at a local university.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Physics, Scottish country dancing, baking... among other things
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Hmm, you'd have to ask someone else. I do tend to get compliments
on my smile.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I'm a HUGE Star
Wars fan (of course, I prefer the classic trilogy). I love
books (fantasy is my
favorite: Robert Jordan, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, George R. R.
Martin), computer games (Adventure:
King's
Quest, Gabriel Knight, Monkey Island...)
TV shows: LOST,
Heroes, Good Eats, The Daily Show,
The West
Wing, Buffy
Favorite musical group is probably They Might be Giants. I
sing along with showtunes.
Favorite food... anything chocolate. I love going out for Indian
or Thai food, but I like pretty much everything.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

books? 6. my laptop.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
I spend a lot of time thinking about my research, and about the
people in my life, and about whatever I happen to be reading at the
moment.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
It really depends. Some fridays, I hole up at home alone in front
of the TV, and just knit all evening. (Sometimes I do that, but
with a friend over for company.) Sometimes I play video games.
Sometimes I get together with friends and play board games.
Sometimes I go to Scottish Country Dance class. I'm not much of one
for the bar scene, but I do prefer to be with people rather than
alone on weekends. I tend to keep things pretty low-key even so,
though.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I like to take things pretty slow in relationships. I'd rather be
firmly friends with someone before things start getting too
physical -- that just adds too much extra pressure.

I dunno... I guess if what you read above appeals to you... :-)
