My self-summary Propose an edit

**First off, I should quickly note that I haven't been online much the last month or so, due to Uni commitments catching up with me. I will be trying to get this updated a tad soon**
**It should also be noted that my pics are a few weeks / months out of date. my hair is currently blue (with hints of aqua, white, yellow and pink) and will probably be luminous lime green in the next month or two. You have been warned :D**

Let’s get the basics out of the way first, yeah?
My name is Dan (or Danny, both are fine, I'm easy :D), and I’m a nice guy.
No, really!
Its true, my Mum told me so. And my Nan. And that old Gypsy lady that grabbed my hand and looked really hard at my palm when I bought a spring of lavender from her. So now you know, it’s got to be true, right?

I’m really laid back and easy going. I like learning about new things, going to new places, meeting new people and getting really into new things.
I love meeting new people, getting into wide ranging discussions where my general knowledge of otherwise useless things tends to come in handy, and simply having a good time.
On the other hand, theirs nothing I like better than a quite night in, cuddled up on the sofa with someone watching TV, or (when someone to cuddle isn’t available) just sitting in a comfy chair, listening to good music and reading a good book.

I’m currently a Student at the University of Bath, studying for my degree in Computing.

I like animals. I have 3 cats and a dog. A lot of people are afraid of my dog, as he’s pretty big (1 year old and currently about 12 stone. And growing!), but really, he’s just a big soppy scardy cat.

There’s a load more I could put here, but I want to maintain a little mystique!

I’m a little uncomfortable having my aim on here as Long-Term. That is what I am looking for, but to me, long term commitment grows out of friendship and mutual respect.
And love.
I’m looking for love (yeah I know, sappy).
In romance, looks aren’t really important to me (not that drop dead gorgeous wouldn’t be appreciated, it’s just not the most vital thing. I think people are way too hung up on how people look these days anyway).

What is important is what’s inside. I like to have intelligent conversations, to talk critically about things and share opinions. I know it’s a cliché, but I’m a sucker for a good sense of humour, and I will always fall for someone that gets my somewhat off kilter wit (or half of it, anyway).

Most importantly, I like women that are sweet, honest, and comfortable with themselves.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

As I said, I’m studying for my Degree in Computing at the moment, and after that I’m kind of open to where the world takes me. I would love to go back after I finish this degree and get another one in an Art subject, Fine Art or Sculpture or even Illustration.
I might take a year out to do something thats always interested me, like Stone Carving or Blacksmithing. I've done a little of both before, and found them really enjoyable.
I would like to travel, and see some of the world before I get too old to enjoy it.
I wouldn’t mind ending up in a tec job, maybe computer programming or analysis.
If I was too look more long term though, say 10 years down the line, then I’d like to be settled down with a good woman, kids, a nice house and a job that I find both enjoyable and that contributed to society. Anyone with any ideas about that let me know!
If I had my dream life it would be pretty much the same, except I would be able to devote my time to painting, writing and intellectual pursuits rather than work. Which is a bit lame for a dream lifestyle, what with no jet planes or wild rockstar groupie orgy's, but hey, I'm just a simple guy at heart :D

**Update:Have just realised that due to my near endless tinkering with this profile, I've accidentally removed any reference to the fact I have Multiple Sclerosis. I have written a long blog about it, and you can read about it here.**

I'm really good at Propose an edit

Writing way too much on profiles. It's a sickness. Really!
Finding a Simpsons quote for everything. But annoyingly I still haven't been able to think of one about quotes.
Kicking back and enjoying life.
Using "net-speak" (emoticons, lol, etc.) even when I am trying hard not to. I blame the fact I've lived online for 15 years. It really has rotted the mind.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit

I have no idea. It's not like I go up to complete strangers and say "What have you just noticed about me?!!?" If I did that, they would probably run away. Or hit me. Or both.

How about I'm six foot and have a tendency not to blink as often as I should. Dose that count?

If we meet, you can tell me what you noticed first.

Oh, hang on. Someone once told me my voice was too deep for them to be able to hear. So, yay for me and my natural Infrasound! Maybe that explains all the elephants round here??

**I should point out, as a couple of people that have met me apparently haven't got it, that this last point is a JOKE! No, really! My voice is a bit deep, but not stupidly so or anything :D And besides, it let me get elephants highlighted in my profile!**

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

Books
I love to read, everything from hard science and philosophy, though historical fiction, classics, fantasy, sci-fi, vampire…. OK, I said, I love to read!
Some of my all-time favourites, in no particular order:
I, Claudius by Robert Graves, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, The Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake, The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer (Various Translations), The Elements of Style (Strunk & White), Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis
Books I’ve been reading recently:
Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedich Nietzsche (Clancy Martin Translation), The Singularity Is Near by Ray Kurzweil

Movies
The Movies I like are pretty varied, everything from Anime to Zombie, via Comedy, Drama], Mystery, Thriller. Well, pretty much anything actually. I like anything that’s got a decent plot. A few goodies of the top of my head are Seven Samurai, Grosse Pointe Blank, Kagemusha, Akira, Rocky, Empire Records, Young Frankenstein, The City of Lost Children, Colossus: The Forbin Project, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Once Upon A Time In The West, True Romance, The Man from Earth. I could probably add another 50 to that list without thinking about it though…

Music
My musical taste is also all over the place, anything from Post-Rock to old fashioned Country via Classical and Japanese Flute music.
I have decided to try and do something a little different here, and I'm gonna put a every so often updated "Top 10 Artists List" from my LastFm page -

LastFM/Bigdanny321 - that should give you a better idea of what I like (14/11/08):

1 U2
2 Johnny Cash
3 Sigur Rós
4 The Beatles
5 The Who
5 Tom Waits
7 Miles Davis
8 Creedence Clearwater Revival
9 The Verve
10 Motörhead

Some other Favorites, in no particular order: , Daft Punk, Bob Dylan, The Doors, R.L. Burnside, Bob Marley, The Prodigy, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Portishead, Jeff Buckley, Green Day, Arcade Fire, Randy Newman, Frédéric Chopin, The Clash, Cream, and well, OK, I could go on ad infinitum.

Food
Falls down a bit here, as I haven’t had anything to adventurous recently so just a short list:
Cheesecake, Lamb, Asparagus, Chinese food, Salmon, Plaice, Gungo peas, Dr Pepper - the elixir of life!

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

I don’t need possessions….
Actually, that’s a total fib.
1 My Dog Ajax (though he’s not a thing)
2 My iPod
3 My PC
4 My books
5 Music - without which my iPod and PC would be all but useless
6 ?? erm, freedom? The strong nuclear force? Some other silly answer like air? I struggled with 5! How about Porn?? Mo, wait, I never watch (or read) (or write) porn *whistles nonchalantly and backs away from keyboard*

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit

Thinking? Me? No, you must have me confused with someone else.
Oh, wait!
I'm amazing at thinking about the great mysteries of the universe, like:
Dose anyone actually care how much wood a woodchuck chucks?
If you have sex with someone in a Monkey suit, is it a form of Bestiality?
Do conjoined twins need to pay to two tickets on planes, trains etc, even if they only need one seat?
If you’re stuck between two rocks, can you still say you’re “between a rock and a hard place”?
Will they ever invent food pills?
Where is my monkey butler?

Please address all potential answers to my doctor, care of my inbox, please.

On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit

It's the same thing we do every night, Pinky.

Try To take over the world!

(I love Pinky and the Brain!)

More seriously, I'm properly doing something normal, like staying in watching the TV, reading a book, listening to music, or I might even be at the pub.

All terribly exciting and exotic, no?

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit

The end of the film Iron Giant can make me cry.

Oh, and its not private, but I love the game of Go. What is private is that I totally suck at it.
No, really, I am quite possibly the worst player in the history of the world.
Or to put it another way I "Epic Fail" (as one of my friends so succinctly put it when she watched me play the other day).

You should message me if Propose an edit

You were able to make it through my profile and stay awake.
You feel like you want to.
I'm not gonna force you, which I could've, because I'm a big guy and I'm good with knots. (There is a Simpson's quote for everything!!)

Seriously, you should contact me if your looking for a friend, someone with a wired, mostly dry sense of humor, if you have a passion for something and think that I might share it, if you want someone to laugh with, talk with, drink with, hang out with. Well, anything really.
Oh, if you also find yourself constantly quoting the Simpson's, contact me!

If by some miracle your a woman thats read my profile, seen my pics and is interested in seeing if we hit it off, then please, drop me a line .
