My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Iowa farm boy origins inspire my love for the land, wholesome canned peaches on the cellar shelf integrity, can do work ethic, finding Beauty in all things. Shenanigan maker I indulge in the creation and spreading of lightness and humor. Big hearted long view of of the terrain we navigate... asking "What can I do to help?"
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a dad of two adult children, teacher, farmer-poet looking for the stories unfolding around me. I take delight in the simple elegance of hard work, growing food for my family and my community and listening to the rhythms of the natural world. I don't find much happiness in the consumer driven material world...although the occasional splurge to travel and explore another culture or take in the arts is appealing. I am happiest when tapped into the circle of kindness, loving and being loved. I seek out my elders for the stories that come from their long view and how they keep their sparkle. I take time to feel the love and add beauty when I can.

The home porch is Viroqua, WI, but I coordinate college volunteers in Southern Mississippi/New Orleans for the winter months and run conservation crews in the summer at national parks in the summer.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Midwestern modesty prompts me to say, "Aw shucks..What do ya need done?" I've been blessed with deep reserves of patience, faith, flares of the imagination and sinewy strength to do what needs to be done.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Stars tangled in my hair (I'm 6'6"). Depending on the occasion in my eye you might see a glint of jokester, romance, the fire to get it done or "Oh my God how much longer will this meeting take!".

Soul stirrin, knee slappin, hand clappin dwellin with the spirit. I love where imagination and trust can take us in all the mediums mentioned above and then some. I am happiest when creating as opposed to consuming though certainly enjoy the soulfulness and nurturance of work artfully done. Whitman, Twain, James Baldwin, Willa Cather, Wendell Berry, David Foster Wallace, Blues Brothers, Blazing Saddles Life is Beautiful, The Eighth Day, live theatre and music, Classic Soul and Funk, Blues, (Felt so lucky to take in BB King and Buddy Guy in the past year and then drive the Blues Highway down to the Delta with stops in Chicago, Memphis , Clarksdale, Ms and on down to New Orleans where I can't help myself but dance in the streets to the brass bands) classic Jazz, Urban Gospel. I grow grass fed and organic beef and pork. Big garden. Hot-n-Spicey, Down Home, love exploring the width and breadth of the global table.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Everything is related....My joy comes from the adventure of discovering and savoring the exquisite connections that hold us up in this world.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The Beauty of it All. I mean everything! How we take our deepest emotions and are willing to be truthful and experience the grace of humility. With that vulnerability in relationships we have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of love.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Asking what menagerie will draw me in this time?!? Ready to boogie or lay it down and relax.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm so tall I once got a job at the zoo cleaning out giraffe ears

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You have a love for adventure both in the landscape and the soul scape. Do you thrive and find some peace in the physical and spiritual challenges? I get my kicks from farming, paddling the back water labyrinths of the Mississippi and the country of the Canadian Shield. BWCA. Kayaking ocean waters and bayous. Back packing in the Rockies. Do you have an appreciation and spark for the earthy, the bawdy, the gritty, the robust. Can you take on the rough in nature and humanity and appreciate with an artist's eye? Do you love how stories and humor manifest themselves when we reach out? An expansive and warm heart that values simplicity as the path to richness and delights in the mysteries and characters that is our human communion. Welcoming, extroverted warmth toward all peoples and creatures as we take our opportunities to make friends from strangers and raise a glass in gratitude to feast in the abundance. My lifestyle is resourceful and environmentally tuned so that I don't need much money to live on, but not to the point where I don't enjoy the finer things to make an occasion special. I scrape the clouds with my heighth so I need you to be long legged so I don't need a step ladder to kiss ya or at least have the thunderbolts to bring me to my knees. Liberal ideals and healthy lifestyle important but not in a righteous, ego driven way that keeps me from asking questions with sincere curiosity, connecting to and appreciating all walks of life. Deep love comes in the courage and commitment to explore the shadows that often come up in relationship together. Does Walt Whitman and the notion of paradox make sense to you?: "Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)" Can you feel the rhythms of this good earth, claim with confidence your place of wonder and challenge and can't help but get up to dance and serve from your heart's generosity!
