My self-summary
Who am I? I'm someone whose ultimate goal in life is to love God and love others well. I think people are fascinating and love hearing their stories. I like to laugh - and am convinced that one of my love languages is sarcasm and mockery. I think trees were made for climbing. I love adventures, laughing with people I love, playing games, being outdoors, and curling up by the fire or in a hammock with a good book. I try to look for the good in people and situations, and usually find it.

I'm flexible, adaptable, patient, laid-back (sometimes a little too laid-back), and nearly always running late. I love to laugh, and appreciate everything from dry British humor (Fawlty Towers or Steven Fry) to the stupidity of Ben Stiller in Zoolander or Mystery Men. I am sometimes messy and have trouble holding onto more than one emotion at a time. I like to think of myself as pretty rational, but I also feel things deeply. I am a recovering perfectionist in many ways, have high expectations of myself and others, but have been reminded over & over how much we all need grace (& not just a little... I'm talking grace by the bucketful...) I don't want to settle for average or OK in areas that I deem to be important (relationships, character, personal growth, etc.) Things aren't that important to me. People are. Relationships are. God is.

If you ask me where my favorite place in the world is, I'll hem and haw for a bit, then tell you I can't decide. A top-ten list would include camping on a sand bar in the Amazon rainforest, trekking through the Andes Mountains, cliff jumping off a 16th century fort in Sri Lanka, surfing (poorly) in Puerto Chicama, Peru (the "longest wave in the world"), jumping off waterfalls in the Golan Heights, hitchhiking and backpacking through Palestine and the West Bank, living in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, working w/ Mother Theresa's home for the dying in Khaligat, sharing meals in the homes of friends (whether that be in Peru, Nepal, Brazil, the West Bank, or Indiana, Ohio, California, or Illinois), or sitting around a dining room table with my family playing games, telling stories, and laughing uproariously. I like to laugh.
What I’m doing with my life
so a couple years ago i went back to school (getting my master's in mental health counseling...) it's a good fit, and i'm loving the program. I am working for a non-profit which focuses on immigrants and refugees, and love it. just started my internship, which means the end of grad school is in sight! i'm always up for an adventure, so if you know of a place i just HAVE to know about - music, food, outdoors, laughter, cultural, or just plain bizarre things that you think everyone who lives here should know about - please do let me know... Other than that, trying to keep my head above water, finding balance in work, school, and having a life outside of those things...
I’m really good at
falling off of things, jumping off of things, hurting myself, playing word games, reading, making people laugh, having adventures, always being up for anything, whistling, listening, making myself look foolish, asking questions, not getting lost, and making guacamole... (seriously - it's delicious.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have lots of favorites. As an exercise in self-control, I'm only going to name 3 in each category... Want to know more? Just ask...

Books: I devour books - and have always loved reading. A few of my top novels would include "City of Joy" (Dominique LaPierre), "The Power of One" (Bryce Courtenay), and "Silence" (Shusako Endo). Nonfiction would include pretty much anything by Henri Nouwen, Anne Lamott, NT Wright, Bill Bryson, and Frederick Buechner (among others). I am also a sucker for the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Movies: The Mission, Men with Guns, Mystery Men

TV: The IT Crowd, Community, Modern Family, and my all time favorite Arrested Development...

Music: love an eclectic mix, but right now would have to say Over the Rhine, Patty Griffin, Mumford and Sons (super stoked to go see them on their Gentlemen of the Road tour this August), Civil Wars, and bad 80's music...

Food: Peruvian is my all-time favorite (a good ceviche or lomo saltado can be eaten anywhere, at any time). Sushi and tacos are up there as well... cooking is fun. cooking for others is even more fun...

Punctuation: I am a huge fan of the ellipses... I use them often (some would say too much) in my written communication. Second favorite would be the til (~) which makes the ñ sound in Spanish and the nasal ones in Portuguese.
