My self-summary Propose an edit
I have a generally sunny disposition that is occasionally
interrupted by bouts of crankypants ranting. Basically, I wish
people were more caring, forward-thinking, and generous-- it would
make everything better all-round.
I probably have more fun socializing than wandering off by myself.
In elementary school I was the smart kid who would rather talk to
my neighbors than pay attention to the teacher... and that hasn't
really changed. I can keep myself entertained just fine, but I
remain gregarious at heart.
I'm no pixie, but I get plenty of exercise and am in decent shape.
I like getting outside... things like hiking and snowshoeing make
me pretty happy. I'd like to do some cross-country skiing this
winter. I'm a lapsed martial artist, and I'm hoping to get back to
that soon.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Living it.
Lately, I am spending more time dolled up in work drag than I ever
thought I would.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Well, once upon a time I had a killer backhand return. Hopefully
I'll get that back soon.
I have somehow mastered the art of being organized without
mastering the art of neatness.
I know a lot of random-ass things, and can identify an embarrassing
number of bad songs within the first couple of notes. This means I
make a pretty bitchin' pub quiz teammate.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Several people have told me that they just like the feeling that I
bring into a room.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
My musical taste is all over the place (and so are my books,
currently, as I've run out of shelves). I love going to live music
shows in small venues, and dancing always makes me feel better when
I've had a real crap week.
Sadly, I haven't been at many live music venues, lately. The last 4
concerts I've been to: Botticellis/Papercuts, Social Distortion,
Ledisi, and The Stooges. I'm a big fan of strings in their many
forms.
I used to be a voracious reader but my reading has really dropped
off in the last year. The last 5 books I've read: Burmese Days
(George Orwell), Ship of Fools (Katherine Porter), Going to Meet
the Man (James Baldwin), Maps (Nusruddin Farah), The Handmaid's
Tale (Margaret Atwood, a re-read). Currently reading Journey to the
End of the Night (Celine).
I'd like to think my taste in movies is eclectic, but I fear it's
really just haphazard. Perennial favorites include Bruce Lee, film
noir, Almodovar, and kitschy stuff from the '70s. If you will go to
Fremont with me to see Hindi movies at the Naz 8 I just
might love you forever-- I'm completely hooked on them and very few
people I know will go.
I love vegetables (except lima beans, because I can't stand the
consistency-- they're like eyebrows), but I can still appreciate
(and prepare) a good steak. One great thing about the Bay Area is
definitely the abundance of CSAs. I'm a fan of Southeast Asian and
Indian cuisines.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Free time, Mangoes, Earplugs, Something to read, Something to write
with, Aikido
And 2 things I fail to understand the allure of, although many
people I love and respect sing their praises unfailingly:
Red Velvet Cake
Burning Man
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Job-related: Poor scientific/clinical study design. It's everywhere
and it makes me ranty.
Unrelated: my mind is a fast-moving mix of story ideas, to-do
lists, airline itineraries, vacation plans, lust, and so forth.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Picking up my farm box and trying to fend off exhaustion. I tend to
go out more on Thursdays or Saturdays than Fridays.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
For reasons I don't fully understand, more than one person I know
has taken to spontaneously calling me "Miss".
You should message me if Propose an edit
You are between 30 and 40...okay, 40-ish.
You play well with others and you like yourself.
You have big chi. Bonus points if you know what I'm talking
about.
You have intellectual brilliance, matched by emotional intelligence
and empathy.
You want to meet me at the Rickshaw stop, the MOMA, or a sushi
joint. Or you want to shoot pool and drink bloody marys at some
dive bar.
If you value and respect people over things and reality over
romanticism, we will get along smashingly well.
