I am looking for a best pal and friend which may ultimately lead to a long term relationship. Right now my life is better than ever and one more addition would make it even more wonderful. Let's aim for an equal partnership with unconditional love and trust where judgement is absent. The aura of a lover is a wonder. Some spice is nice.

I am kind and empathic; polite and gentle but not overly genteel; sometimes a bit of a rough cut. Being an older kid is OK. Although I can be a little quirky (goofy?) I am also reasonably well grounded. I am monogamous and do not play games. Honesty is essential so I try to be very transparent. Ask me anything and you will get an honest reply. I tend to wear my emotions on my sleeve. I am smarter than the average bear but I also realize there are many smarter bears out there; besides, smart people or bears do not amount to much without a heart and soul.

I value: people, honesty, simplicity, sharing, authenticity, and humor. To borrow a line from a woman, I am not a "narcissistic boy playing important." I am not pretentious. I am not materialistic. OK, I do have a very cool Subaru Forester with 165 ponies rumbling under the hood.

I: have season tickets to the SF Symphony; would like to go to Europe and visit Prague, Paris, Italy (a colleague has a place in Umbria) and the Dordogne (an old friend has a B and B there); love Hawaii and, in particular, the Big Island, which is sort of my spiritual home - the other islands are great too; would like to find a kayaking partner (nice, but not essential); rarely watch my TV....It would be nice to add the desires of a partner to the list.

Finally, my ongoing life project is to take life as it comes and not take myself too seriously: the world does not revolve around me. No matter what happens I will be OK.

I am a high school history teacher and my job is (usually) a delight. I exercise moderately and try to get to the gym 2-3 times a week. I have a small circle of friends and colleagues that I prize. I try to help the world to get pointed in a better direction in some small way.

A bunch of things, I think.

I am outgoing most of the time and I am loyal to my friends. I am polite and generous.

I love classical music. Dvorak is my favorite composer. Beethoven was the best although it would be a tad difficult to think of Brahms, Mozart, Bach and others as chopped liver. Jazz, oldies rock, and R & B are nice too.

I would like to get to more movies than I do right now - this usually happens when I have a girlfriend. My taste varies. 'Joyeux Noel' is the movie I see most often because I show it to my World History students every year just before holiday break; it's about French, German, and Scottish soldiers fraternizing at Christmas on the western front in 1914.

Chinese, Italian, and Mexican restaurants with funky atmosphere are great.

I usually meet with some friends for about an hour and then eat and chill out after that. This could certainly change somewhat if I had a partner.
