No, as a matter of fact, I'm NOT down to earth. I'm an ambitious, accomplished weirdo. I want to live life my way, with no compromise, and it's hard to do that without working hard and planning. But I'm learning to relax and live in the moment, too. I'm a writer, which I've applied to an academic career and writing about music, and now I'm finally getting around to writing a novel. Aesthetics are important to me - I'm fascinated by the beauty of the mysterious, abstract, horrific, transgressive, and grotesque. I help run an art gallery and I'm also a musician, a little bit.
I moved to Tampa from Tokyo, where I've lived for about four years altogether. I speak Japanese and I'm professionally committed to studying Japan, but by God am I glad to be back in the U.S.A. Believe it or not, it's actually a happier place.
I'm politically radical, and very interested in politics, but I haven't had time for much activism for the past few months.
I've been taking Meyers-Briggs tests a bit lately, and the type that comes out most often is ENTJ, a.k.a. 'The Field Marshall'. That sounds really scary, but it mostly means I'm an outgoing leader and problem solver who's interested in seeing other people be the best they can be. That can seem aggressive or negative to some people, but I'm working on making sure I sound as supportive as I intent to be.
