My self-summary
Where should I begin? Well, a friend recently described me as a "lovable nerd", so I suppose that's a good thing. I would also have to say that I'm a pretty typical Capricorn (from an astrological standpoint). I have a tendency to be a bit shy and somewhat reserved, but I'm also very driven and focused when it comes to the things that I want out of life. I feel most fulfilled when I'm working hard to achieve my goals, but that doesn't mean that I don't like to have fun; in fact, I tend to be quite witty and downright silly when given the opportunity.

My friends would probably describe me as polite, friendly, and tactful. I do have a tendency to expect a certain degree of common courtesy and civility from the people that I associate with.

I am divorced, so I tend to be fairly cautious when it comes to dating. I like to build friendships first, then see what develops. I will also admit that I'm a hopeless romantic and, ideally, I'd like to find my soul mate--if such a thing actually exists (the jury is still out on that one).

I generally gravitate towards people who are unique, intelligent, and creative. In my opinion, "normal people" are rather dull. At the risk of sounding a bit odd, I will say that I get along quite well with other earth signs (If you're a Capricorn, Taurus, or Virgo, we'll probably get along famously...I seem to "click" with water signs too). As for ideology, I generally classify myself as "liberal" in most respects, although I am fairly adept in the art of diplomacy.

My passions include: art, music, literature, technology, and history. I also enjoy taking advantage of any opportunity to learn something new. Personal growth and enrichment are fairly high on my list of priorities, so I tend to seek out new experiences when I can. On the weekends, you can generally find me at a concert or out dancing (yup, usually dancing).

I genuinely believe that you can learn a LOT about a person by watching them on a dance floor for about 10 minutes. :-)
What I’m doing with my life
Update: 1/22/13 - Well, I just started my second Master's degree, and this one will be in Instructional Technology (the first one was in Library and Information Science). Yes, librarians are awesome...LOL. :-)

I sometimes think that I have a second career as a professional student, but I do really enjoy having the opportunity to learn new skills. I currently work for an academic institution, and I absolutely love my job. I feel very fortunate to be doing something that I love.
I’m really good at
I tend to think that I'm a fairly decent writer (when I'm not writing about myself...LOL). I've also been told that I'm quite good at my job. I enjoy painting and drawing, although I'm not sure if anyone would say that I'm particularly good at either activity. I am a good listener, and I try very hard to be a supportive friend to the people that I care about.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've been told that I have nice eyes and nice cheekbones; apart from that, I think people sometimes notice my tattoos.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am a HUGE music fan and I have been for as long as I can remember. Poor taste in music is definitely a deal breaker. I'm a big fan of: indie rock, gothic rock, post punk, industrial, electro, trance, house, old school hip-hop and pretty much anything that I can dance to.

Some of my favorite artists include (but are not limited to) the following: David Bowie, Sisters of Mercy, the Cure, the Smiths, M83, AFI, BT, New Order, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash, the Damned, Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, Oingo Boingo / Danny Elfman, Public Image Limited, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, Love & Rockets, (old) Misfits, Danzig, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Castles, Icon of Coil, Apoptygma Berzerk, Roxy Music, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Echo and the Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Ramones, 16 Horsepower, the Mission U.K., Fields of the Nephilim, Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction, Radiohead, Evanescence, Suede, Daft Punk, Bat for Lashes, The Prodigy, Project Pitchfork, Wumpscut, Dead Can Dance, Cell-dweller, KMFDM, Cocteau Twins, the Cult, Covenant, And One, The Birthday Massacre, Faith and the Muse, Xymox, Class Actress, Ghost & Writer, Wolfsheim, Aesthetic Perfection, Frontline Assembly, God Module, Combichrist, Killing Joke, Ministry, Seabound, Sneaker Pimps, IAMX, Interpol, Chameleons UK, Front 242, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Shiny Toy Guns, Empire of the Sun, Deadmau5, Cold Cave, Smashing Pumpkins, and VNV Nation. I will also "throw down" to "good" pop (Madonna, Justin Timberlake, etc.). I love spending time in used record stores (although there aren't very many left these days).

As for books and television/film, I typically gravitate towards the science fiction genre (yes, I am a geek and I'm quite proud of it).

Favorite films: Blade Runner, Alien, (the original) Star Wars, the Matrix (1st film), The Dark Knight Trilogy, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, anything artsy or quirky (Wes Anderson films, etc.). I'm also a big Quentin Tarantino fan.

I tend to read a lot of science fiction. Dune, by Frank Herbert, is my favorite science fiction novel. Neuromancer, by William Gibson, is probably my second favorite sci-fi novel. Some of my other favorite authors include: Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Anne Rice, and Neil Gaiman. I'm also quite fond of graphic novels (no, we don't refer to them as "comics" anymore...LOL).

Television, in general, is not very high on my list of priorities, but I adore British television and I am a huge fan of:

The IT Crowd
Downton Abbey
Monty Python
Dr. Who
Torchwood

I just finished Season 3 of Game of Thrones (love it), and I'm working my way back through the entire run of Battlestar Galactica. I'm also a huge fan of Firefly, Farscape, and I'm slowly getting back into Buffy the Vampire Slayer. BBC's "Sherlock" is a new favorite. Oh, and Arrested Development is probably my favorite comedy of all time. ;-)
The six things I could never do without
Six things that I could never do without:
1.) My iPod
2.) My laptop
3.) My cat (Hmmm...my cat should actually be number one) :-)
4.) Books
5.) Art supplies
6.) Caffeine
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I do tend to spend a lot of time thinking about the future. I also tend to obsess over relatively minor things.
On a typical Friday night I am
On a typical Friday night, I'm generally out dancing. I also like to go to rock shows. I spend a lot of time in art galleries, museums, and bookstores. If I'm in an introspective mood, I may be inclined to spend a Friday night curled up with a good book or strolling through a gallery. You'd be hard pressed to find me at a sporting event on a Friday night (or any night for that matter).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a little bit OCD (and a little awkward) at times. I'm very patient when it comes to work or achieving my goals, but I'm completely impatient with everything else. :-/

I'm an alligator...a space invader...and a moon age day dream (bonus points if you can identify the reference...LOL). :-D

For some unknown reason, I am compelled to sign the majority of my email correspondence with a smiley face.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 26–46
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
I love meeting new people. I do tend to be a bit shy until I get to know someone. If you're a fan of: indie rock/gothic/industrial/ or electronic music (in any shape or form), I would love to chat with you. I will also admit that I generally like to stay ITP - it's just easier. :-)

I enjoy lengthy discussions about art, literature, and the meaning of life (preferably over a cup of coffee...or maybe some Earl Grey tea); if that appeals to you, then feel free to say hello.

As I pointed out, I'm not much of a sports fan, but I do enjoy extreme sports (I was an avid skateboarder "back in the day"). I play tennis and golf on occasion. I also enjoy running. I'd like to learn how to surf, and how to snowboard, at some point. I'm very active, but I just don't really care for team sports.

I like to think of myself as a genuinely good, honest person; that being said, don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I have a very low tolerance for b.s., and I have absolutely zero tolerance for liars and rude people.
