My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I moved here from North Carolina about 18 months ago and I'm still trying to figure out my place here!

I'm looking for friends and new experiences that help me explore these new surroundings. I see myself being here for a little while, so it's time to get comfortable.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
After having survived the fraught-with-peril experience that is graduate school, I'm working at a national research lab...where I'm cashing in my degree on a daily basis surrounded by a sea of ill-fitting khaki. I'm the resident hapless mathematician!

I try to keep myself busy with a lot of hobbies and interests without being too consumed by it all. It's bizarre to no longer think of myself as a student..that's for sure. I'm looking forward to what's next for me, and at the same time looking back to see where I've been, all while looking around to make sure I don't miss anything.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm not sure what I'm really good at. I have things that I'd like to *think* I'm really good at, but it will take someone other than me to really make that judgement. But I'd say I'm fairly good at some of the things that I do...cooking, waiting tables (well, not anymore), math, and throwing clay (pottery!!).

I'm really good at over analyzing. And in that vein, I'm really good at making the best of a situation, and thinking through things. Thinking of things like probabilities, analysis, and systems. I'm really good at logistics, at getting things done. Ooohh, I'm really good at using a lot of butter in the things I cook.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
At first, probably that I'm tall and have dark hair. Then people may notice I don't have a southern accent despite having been raised in the south (woohoo). From there, they'd probably notice that it's hard to keep and maintain my attention...but don't take it personally.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
** books: omnivore's dilemma, blink, a brief history of time, fascinating works of nonfiction, john steinbeck, memoirs, on food and cooking, and the french laundry cookbook, two boys kissing.
** movies: documentaries (anything that has played at full frame!) sunshine (whoa), amelie, moulin rouge, eternal sunshine, hackers, clue, (tim curry = swoon), and the emperor's new groove.
** shows: SHAMELESS!, the newsroom, homeland, person of interest, real time, locked up abroad, ER (yeah, that's right), west wing
** music: cut copy, jump little children, jimmy eat world, the cure, bastille, the national, geographer, old school daft punk, indie music du jour, and radiohead.
** food: {french, italian, mediterranean, california} cuisine. anything that thomas keller or alice waters would serve (right?)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
**a sense of humor (how else are you going to get through life?)
**maps (the paper kind...how else would we know where we are but for maps?)
**wine. (really helps with the first thing on this list)
**0.05mm sharp drafting pencil, the last pencil you'll ever need, though lately i've been transitioning to the pilot precise v5...the last pen you'll ever need.
**butter
**and lastly, a sense of perspective; the hardest thing to obtain.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
the future. and for that matter the past. i think a lot about math why things are the way they are. i think about what's next for me. i think about whether or not we're collectively going to make it; how there is just so much to do in the world and if we are ever going to get around to everything. i wonder if i'll ever be foolish enough to open that (perfect) wine bar idea of mine. i spend a lot of time thinking how things would have been if i had dropped out of grad school and became a park ranger in yosemite (or acadia)...or if i had actually gone to documentary school in san francisco like I wanted to when I was a freshman.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
in the studio, and going out and about on this side of the river!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
The majority of my Facebook feed is pictures of cute, cute, cute dachshunds. No regrets.
