I'm the lead engineer at a small medical devices company in Cambridge. While that can be stressful, I do get to work on potentially life-changing products for real people who need help. That, and there's always something new to do.
I play the guitar and the harmonica. I'm mostly into traditional jazz, swing, blues, and folk styles. I'd be really interested to get playing more with other people.
I like to dance. I teach lindy hop in Boston and am starting to get the hang of Argentine Tango and Balboa as well.
I'm currently on a sort of crazy Ancient Greece kick - Iliad and Odyssey, Herodotus, Thucydides, etc, and other more recently written histories. So far I've learned that, based on history, the best solution to modern Greece's problems is obviously to submit to Macedonian hegemony and invade Persia.
Movies: Really bad movies (I might as well admit it now), but don't worry I like good movies too. I have a pretty sweet movie setup in my home.
Shows: Last Week Tonight. Game of Thrones. Mad Men.
Lots of music: I'm into older stuff, and stuff that sounds old. Trad jazz, 20's and 30's blues, old time country and bluegrass.
WUMB. Billie Holiday, The Band, Duke Ellington, Norman Blake, Mississippi John Hurt, Jimi Hendrix, Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, Robert Johnson, Son House, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Woody Guthrie, Sonny Boy Williamson, Lester Young, Skip James, Tommy Johnson, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, BB King, Lightnin Hopkins, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Count Basie, Sidney Bechet, Gordon Webster, Carsie Blanton, The Careless Lovers.
I like to play in bands. I used to play harmonica in a band called the Fried Bananas. I'm in a trad jazz band called The Rubber Band and play rhythm guitar. We're called the Rubber Band because we're flexible on quality.
Food: I like cookies. Also bourbon. That's food, right? It has to be at least 51% corn mash to be called bourbon, and corn is food, therefore, bourbon is food. But really, Italian food is my go to. I make a few good pasta dishes, although I really should work on expanding my horizons in the kitchen. Next project!
