My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Well.............hm.

I'm new to this tell-us-all-about-yourself-on-the-internet thing. I'm into walking around, buying prodigious quantities of cheese at the local polish deli, making light fixtures out of odds and ends, riding my bike around, exploring, running when I'm in a hurry, wearing boots when it's raining, and having coffee in the middle of the afternoon when it feels like the right thing to do. I like science, education, and typewriters. I can snap very loudly and tend to do just that when I'm dancing.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
You know, the usual. Making some soup sometimes, reading books about things, teaching kiddos at a nonprofit science studio in the South Bronx, riding my bike around, drinking some beer with friends. I'm pretty good about brushing my teeth twice a day.

****** Pittsburghian update! ******

I moved to Pittsburgh. Came here because where I lived was becoming too cool for school in a way that I didn't like, and because I thought that this city would be a better place for me to do science/engineering education stuff while still being able to work on some projects of my own. I'm new and looking forward to meeting new people and seeing new places!

Please note that despite the relocation, I remain still a bike rider, still a tooth brusher. So don't you worry about that.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Snapping really quite loud. I know I already mentioned it but I just want to be clear about this. I am a champion snapper.

Playing peekaboo with babies passing by in strollers—without their parents noticing! Sneaky.

Matching words with definitions super quick on Freerice.com.

Cleaning dishes pretty damn thoroughly.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't really know, actually…probably among the following: blue eyes / quick to laugh / expressive with hands / look of deep thinking and seriousness when that doesn't seem to make sense (apparently I've been doing this one since I was like a year old!) / likes talking about language / able to eat lots of pasta.

To be fair, though, pasta tastes really good.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Favorite movie: "Cinema Paradiso." It's this incredibly beautiful story about a movie theater in a small Italian town and this little boy who grows up there and it makes me cry every time. Other movies I like a lot are "Lost in Translation," "The Squid and the Whale," "American Splendor," "Seven Fast Seven Furious," "Eight Fastest and Most Furious," "Nine of the Most Fast and Furious," "Waltz With Bashir," and "She Done Him Wrong." (Note: 7, 8, and 9 are going to be my three favorite movies when they come out. I can feel it.)

Favorite book: Logic and Design in Art, Science, and Mathematics by Krome Barratt. I know, this is totally strange and out of left field but there you have it. I bought this book on a whim when I was a high schooler visiting a college bookstore—and it's just so, soooooo, so so interesting and dense and great. It scratches all of my brain's itches in this fabulous way.

Recently read things that I have feelings about: I LOVE Gilead by Marilynne Robinson; STRONGLY LIKE All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy; and LIKED BUT WAS LEFT WITH A SENSE OF WANTING MORE FROM Hemingway's A Moveable Feast.

I like a lot of music. Recently discovered for not-the-first-time that k. d. lang is super great. I listen to Joanna Newsom, Belle and Sebastian, and They Might Be Giants when I want to feel like I know every word and every note of every song.

I like most veggie food. (I mean to be fair I like meat too, I just don't eat it.) There is almost nothing I wouldn't do for a nice bowl of noodle soup. Please note that this is a great way to manipulate me.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1 a somewhat soft place to sleep sometimes,
2 some food that's nice for eating,
3 I should mention that cheese is extremely special to me,
4 other living things nearby (plants, animals, insects, whatever),
5 I just want to reiterate the soft sleeping place because it's nice,
6 and introspection/tea (really these are the same thing)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Inner city kid stuff. What that life is, what it isn't, and how I can try to make it better for the kids I work with.

Also, trains. Big fan of trains.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Maybe working late, maybe biking around, maybe getting a beer and hanging out with friends, checking out some art, making dinner, you know, the usual.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
You know how you get belly button lint? Yeah, well a few nights ago I really, really carefully cleared every little bit of shmutz out of there. It's clean as a whistle now. I'm not making this up.
