Normally, this is the part where a person says what's so great about themselves. Well, I've always been one for doing things a little different. I'm a pretty happy and confident guy. I like my life. I work as a writer and computer consultant, and I'm starting a new microbrewery this summer. I'm looking for someone who is intelligent and fun. I don't want to waste anyone's time, so I'm going to talk a little bit about what the drawbacks are to going out with me.
First, I don't want drama in my life. You know the difference between a drama and a comedy according to classic theater? In a drama, everyone dies. That seems like a drawback. I'm an honest guy who looks for the same in my friends. I would rather a person be rude rather than keeping their opinions hidden. If you groove on everything being dramatic, I'm probably the wrong guy. If you want someone to argue with, I'm not going be him.
I'm also not going to get most of your pop culture references. Soon as hockey season is over, my TV tends to gather dust. I don't watch "Dancing with the Stars" and I couldn't recognize a Kardashian if one bit me. I'm more likely to bust out a line about James K. Polk, Neil Degrasse Tyson, or Proust instead. Don't mind if that's your thing, but it's not mine. Sorry!
Finally, I'm a Father before I'm anything else. Nothing is more important to me than my son. If you have children, I would hope you feel the same way. I love kids, while at the same time I think it's important to take things slow when they're involved.
That being said, here's what you do get. You get a guy who can make you laugh. You get a guy who likes his scotch served neat, his beer at a proper temperature, and can mix a mean drink for you. You get a guy who change a tire, write a poem, cook a meal, pilot a plane, shoot a gun, program a computer, fix a sink, change a diaper, keep a clear head in an emergency, and tell you useless trivia about the platypus. You get a guy who, when he is with you, is actually interested in who you are and what you have to say. You get a guy you can talk to, and in time trust. I'm an open book, even if some chapters are twisty and odd like James Joyce on a bender.
Who are you? Well, hopefully you're a person who is independent, intelligent and is genuinely happy in her life. You like a little adventure, and you're the first to try new foods. You're open to all sorts of new music and art. You're open to new ideas, and you can take life in stride. You're not looking for anyone to change you, but at the same time you don't feel like changing anyone else either. You're looking for someone to share your life with, not to be dependent upon. You're open and free and in love with the world. You can be just as comfortable in the city as you are in the country.
Who knows. In the big roulette game of life we place our bets and let the wheel spin. Let's take a chance.
