I am witty, geeky, and introverted.
My Self-Summary
I'm a 29-year-old
queer,
kinky,
polyamorous transguy living in
Columbia, MO. I'm a
writer with a day job, a sometimes
artist, and a
poet when the mood
strikes me. I live with a long-term platonic partner (read:
straight boyfriend from before the transition; on Facebook I simply
say "it's complicated"). I'm a
polytheist, a geek, and a gamer. I
majored in
English
and minored in
Philosophy/
Ethics/
Religious Studies.
Politically, I'm very
liberal and interested in
social justice, but
between the writing and the day job I don't get out as much as I
could to do the actual work.
What I’m doing with my life
I spend a lot of my free time writing for fun or publication,
reading, and playing video games. I'm also trying to teach myself
Welsh, though I
don't practice enough to have any real proficiency and need to set
time aside to really work on it.
I’m really good at
Writing, mostly.
I'm also a good problem solver, and I'm not a bad painter, though
results are inconsistent. I also make a great cup of
coffee or
tea.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a bit eccentric, and a little bit stand-offish until I know for
sure I'm welcome. Once I get started, though, I can be really quite
talkative. I also have really cool
glasses. Well, okay. I think so.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
My favorite television right now is
Torchwood,
Doctor Who,
Being Human (the UK tv show, not the
film),
Project
Runway,
Firefly, and
Top Gear. My favorite books right now
are by
Neil
Gaiman,
Jim
Hines,
William Gibson,
Catherynne Valente,
and
China
Mieville. My favorite films right now tend to be things like
Clerks,
Shaun of the
Dead,
Severance, but I've got a man crush on
Jason
Statham, so I'll give anything he's in a try. My favorite
bands/musical artists at the moment are
Nine Inch Nails,
Morrissey and/or
The Smiths,
Rufus
Wainwright,
The Ike Reilly
Assassination,
Kentucky AFC and
MC Mabon. I really like Indian
cuisine, sushi, and well-executed American stuff. Also, dark beer,
red wine, and blue cheese.
The six things I could never do without
Presuming my basic needs (food, clothing, shelter) are met? 1) My
netbook, which I use for work as well as play. 2) My dogs, who come
on a bit strong but make my life wonderful. 3) The Internet, as a
lot of my interests are sort of niche and many of my friends live
out of town. 4) Media (books, film, music etc.), because nothing
helps fire up inspiration like good stories. 5) Bathtubs, because
sometimes you just have to settle in with a good book. 6) My Doc
Martens, because never has a man loved a pair of boots like I love
my Docs.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Stories. I write them, I read them, and they make my life fantastic
no matter how things are going in the concrete sense. I think a lot
about my writing career, and how much I want to make more progress
there. I think about my family, chosen and otherwise. I like to
think about the games I play for fun.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm kind of a 'mad scientist' homebody. I tend to stick around the
house because I'm doing something, either for fun or as a project.
I can be lured out, though, especially for a coffee or a film.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Physically, I'm a bit of a work in progress, and that's a bit of a
hang-up for me. I'm dead tired of feeling like people who are
interested in me are in it in spite of that.
You should message me if
You're interested in getting to know me, or if you just want a chat
to feel things out.
