My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a Wisconsin transplant who relocated to Chicago a couple years ago. Moving away has made me realize I love Milwaukee. No offense, Chi! I cope by importing beer and other fine Wisconsin goods back to the urban desert. (Seriously.)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Alternating stints of working with stints of extended travel. I spent a good chunk of this past winter in Indonesia and Myanmar, and hope to make it Mongolia soon. In the city, I like doing the usual stuff-- going to shows or out dancing, hanging with my friends over an extended brunch or simply strolling around if the weather is halfway decent.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Mixing foreign languages, taking standardized tests, growing tomatoes.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Hmmm... I have a largeish nose? I look Eastern European? Around Chicagoland, that means I am judged swiftly and surely for my terrible Polish pronunciation.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I'm a big fiction reader; trying to branch out into non-fiction (but not succeeding terribly well, unless the New Yorker counts). Some favorite authors are Jose Saramago, Zadie Smith and Haruki Murakami

I loved Breaking Bad, enjoy Mad Men and was wowed by the acting in United States of Tara. I follow but am endlessly frustrated by Game off Thrones.

I listen to a lot of indie music (and definitely enjoy Chicago's music festivals and live shows) but am not on the bleeding edge by a long shot. I have a soft spot for top 40 that's danceable. Lately I like Tune Yards, K'naan, TV on the Radio and Sigur Ros among many others.

As a Wisconsin native, I love good beer (no IPAs, please!) and the occasional deep fried cheese curds. My favorite cuisines are Thai, Indian, Mexican and Georgian.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Caffeine, books, a valid passport, sunshine, good beer and good company.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Where the coffee/tea is. Travel plans. Why my attention span is shrinking. What I would change about Chicago if I was urban planner in chief and had some serious money and power. (This is partly due to the fact that I have recently become gutsy enough to bike in the city but am still pretty freaked out about it).
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I usually have Fridays mostly off, so Thursdays are the start to my weekend. Going out three days in a row is proving to be more of a challenge than it used to be, so sometimes I just curl up with a book or some Netflix and a drink. But often there's just too much fun going on to not at least sample some of it.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
When I was teaching English in Spain a few years ago, one of my first graders drew a picture of me with the caption "I am the tallest man". I'm still not sure what to make of that.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
- You're a genuinely good guy and interesting enough to carry on conversation over drinks or hookah or urban hijinks
- You have a sailboat or access to one (I'll bring beer)
- You have a spare burning man ticket you might be coaxed into parting with
- You have travel advice on Mongolia
- Your book club has an opening (my last one kicked me out)
