My self-summary
Happy Valentine's Day!

Smart funny single white male seeking smart beautiful women for bat watching, walks around town lake, sharing dinner, movies in or out and the like. Please be personable and funny, fit and active is a plus. Expect to have fun.

When I was younger I was out and about a lot, and it was easier to meet people. "Wow, hi, you're hot, lets make out!" And someone special comes along, we hang out for a long time.
Catching a buzz and kissing strangers is awesome but being up all night makes it really hard to work all day. I don't have a lot of opportunity for the whole love at first sight thing, I'm checking out online dating to meet women I know have common interests and that are attractive to me without hurting myself. I am looking for someone that's into me that I'm into. That I like. To kiss.

The heart wants what it wants and the eyes tell it a lot. Pictures are worth lots of words, and of my pics the picnic on the floor is a few years old, I cut my hair, but it's such a good pic with really good friends, and representative of what I find a memorable evening, I don't want to take it down. The others are recent.
My 3 kids are in their late teens and early 20's and we are close, but you wouldn't meet them unless things got fairly serious. I've been divorced for over a decade and most of the women I have dated have kids and that's fine with me. It's also fine with me if you do not have children.

I'm passionate, fun, thoughtful, generous, kind, educated, traveled and well read. Mechanical, technical, analytic and handy. Politically I consider myself a centrist, which makes me a flaming lefty as a white male in Texas. I believe in choice, education, and equality.
What I’m doing with my life
Turning the page.
Looking for new and exciting things in 2014
I’m really good at
Washing dishes and clothes, making and breaking a budget, charming the socks off folks.
Kissing. Perfecting the kissing skills. I'm an excellent kisser.
The first things people usually notice about me
How crazy it is that he's single. So cute and funny and smart. What's wrong with him?
Wait, that's what I think about me!
Probably my eyes. Tengo brillante bonito ojos azules.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I've read and loved a lot of classics; Hemingway, Bellow, Tolstoy, Faulkner and more. Contemporaries too; Richard Ford, Eugenides, Tom Robbins, Vonnegut, McMurtry, Roth. Pulp; Rice, King, Grisham and my childhood reading, Louis L'amour. Recently Cormac McCarthy, James Elroy, Nabokov. "Moby Dick" and "The Man of La Mancha" are on my nightstand. I read the Pulitzer every year (Haven't read a Pulitzer since 2010, wasn't one last year, so I'm a couple behind. But I've read 20 + Pulitzer prize winning novels I think, and 100's other good books). This list has a glaring lack of female writers. I love Harper Lee, Flannery O'Connor, Alice Munro, and many more.

Movies: All the regular stuff. I go to the theater for Scorsese, the Coppola's , Wes Anderson, the Coen's, you get the picture(show).

Shows/Music: Lots of old school stuff, punk, Motown, Texas music, and stuff on the radio. I think Jack White is a genius. The National, The Flaming Lips, Lyle Lovett, Stevie Wonder, Aretha, LL, the Beasties, Pixies/Breeders, The Clash, The Temptations, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, Raul Malo/The Mavericks, so many talented people, so little space.

Food: I'm an O.F. (Original Foodie). I studied cooking and cooked professionally in the 90's and now for my friends and family all the time. I can do fancy but it's been a while since I've made a Bearnaise. I like simple. I make chocolate mousse fairly regularly. It's pretty simple though. I will cook for anyone. Watching the growth in the availability of good food has amazed me over the last 25 years. I like most anything fresh and not or lightly processed. BBQ and Mexican make life easy. I eat a lot of Thai, Vietnamese and Indian food, and a lot of vegetables and fish. Job stresses have made it hard to eat the way I like for the last 6 months or so, so I end up eating less than I want. I strive for a tasty, healthy, sustainable diet.
The six things I could never do without
You!
You!
You!
You!
You!
(and) YOU!

How about six things I'm over?
Mc Donalds, Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Bud Light, chicken, and traffic.
That was much easier that what I can do without. (I will eat a sausage McMuffin maybe twice a year, spent $3 in Wal-Mart in the last 8 years because I was super desperate, think Starbucks tastes burnt, won't drink free Bud Light, poultry grosses me out, and I just hate traffic)

Things I do or use every day that I wouldn't want to change:
I drink french pressed shade grown organic fair trade locally roasted bicycle delivered coffee. (That's not true, no bicycle delivery available where I live that I know of.)
KUT, NPR and the BBC.
Internet.
Exercise.
That's all I can think of.
Wait, clean socks and underwear...
Is that 6? If you count the socks and underwear separate, I guess. I'm pretty sure the coffee and the press go together. But do you count the radio stuff separate, that's 8? And if you count those categories singularly it's only 5. A delimma.
I love my 70 Chevy C10.
And kissing.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
my doorbell... When you gonna ring it? (This question is just asking for it! I delivered. 'Caus that's what I do.

Peace in the Middle East.
Value on all sorts of levels.
How the internet is changing the world.
Coal v. oil v. natural gas v. nuclear v. renewables
How efficient is recycling?
All kinds of sexy shit.

I've always wanted to write a book and learn another language and I wonder why I have done neither.

I've become a little obsessed with open education. Linear algebra, calculus and statistics, logic, law, writing, philosophy. It's free from the best and brightest with the click of a mouse. How cool is that?
On a typical Friday night I am
I work so much Friday is pretty much just another day. If I'm not wiped out I'm probably out and about.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have at least 14 pair of underwear so I can go 2 weeks without doing laundry if I want.

I talk dirty to my shower. I call it Lucy, and I'll get in there half asleep in the morning and I'll be "Oh, Lucy, that's hot! Yeah, right there, you know what I like... Don't stop, that feels so good"
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 34–48
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
If you can name all the Supreme Court justices. (Why do I find that sexy? ) Don't forget Bryer. He's almost invisible. It's kind of cheating if you don't know who nominated them or what side of the fence they're on.

Or you want someone you don't know but might want to know to buy you a drink. (I'd buy you more than one. I'll let you buy your own if you'd rather. Heck, I'd let you buy me one if you want.)

You like smart handsome interesting guys. (Over the top self promotion)

You want something amazing to happen. (you just never know)

You can hang with someone who tries to buy everything used.(been poppin' tags) Mostly because there is plenty of stuff in the world. I feel like getting it cheap and used is a little punk rock. Plus my clothes are high quality stuff I would never pay retail for. (It helps I live close to the Gucci Goodwill)

You want to make out.

If you're not local I won't date you. Unless you are an amazingly hot Ivy League educated redhead.
