My self-summary Propose an edit
It occurred to me that I haven't put my name here at all. Hi, I'm
Eric.
I've been told I'm good at making friends, but I must confess that
I have only limited romantic relationship experience (you know
those movies when the lead guy is chasing the girl, and makes some
kind of impossibly dumb mistake? My friends' common response is to
turn to me and say "at least you aren't that bad"). I'm much better
at being in a relationship than I am at starting one, but you can
see how that is a bit of an issue... =P
I sometimes get the feeling that I'm the kind of person who is
misunderstood easily. Less so by those who know me, but by those
who haven't had a chance to get a feel for when I'm joking or not -
I'm always happy to explain, but I think I've sent at least one
person running for the hills with no chance to say "that was just a
joke." Usually, when I'm talking through text, I'll put =P after
something I intend as playful, or not to be taken as entirely
serious, but sometimes I forget.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Planning...
I'm trying to learn a lot of stuff: Japanese, because my Latin training
taught me never to trust translators, and I watch a lot of subbed
Japanese stuff; Go,
since I'm never satisfied with how strong I am at that game; and
ballroom
dancing, because I think it's tons of fun, even though my hips
complain when I move them during the Latin dances.
Long term: I'm working with a good friend of mine to write a book, and to
design a
game which will follow the storyline from the book.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
The one thing that I know I am really good at is accepting the
truth. I'm sure that sounds dumb, but it's important to me. Even if
it means changing my mind about things I've cared about or
considered to be a certain way for a long time, I think it's
important always to accept reality for what it is, without trying
to fool myself. I think that self-deception is just a way to set
oneself up for difficulty.
I'm also really good at using proper grammar. Sometimes I don't
make a big effort - I'm pretty lazy over AIM - but I love to tease
my friends whenever they make even the most obscure mistakes (all
in good fun).

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Hm. This isn't exactly the kind of question I ask people I've
recently met. Actually, I rarely ask for explicit feedback from
anyone. However, I've often heard people remark "wow, you're tall!"
so, I suppose it would be my height. I find that a bit strange,
though, since I'm not especially tall; I'm only 5'11".
I've also had one person comment on how good she thought my lips
looked. That was a little awkward.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic, so I confess I spend a little
time in daydream land. I also spend plenty of time thinking about
Go, the book I'm
working on, philosophy (metaphysics particularly, see my
journal about this, but ethics also takes up its fair amount of
time).
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
I don't really have a typical Friday night, but I have a few common
possibilities. One Friday a month I like to go catch the Rocky
Horror Picture Show with a live cast, which is always a good
time. I could also be up in Johnston at a little pub hanging out
and doing karaoke.
There's a good chance that I'll be out doing some dancing, too.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm immune to the infection that causes zombies.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You'd like to go dancing, or if I sound interesting somehow
(surely, a mistake on my end) and you'd like to talk to me.
