My self-summary
Short story: I'm one of the good ones. Long story: read on.

To start with, after years of hard work, I've finally arrived in life, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I've been out of graduate school and working a great job for about 18 months now, I've got a great group of friends nearby, and I bought a townhouse here, close to my whole family. I always love to meet new people, and this is a great way to get introduced to people who wouldn't normally cross my path. I'd love to find someone special here, but I'm not the kind of person who hurries into a relationship.

I love traveling, both locally, domestically, and abroad. I'm always amazed how much great stuff is right in our backyards when we open our eyes and take a look. That being said, traveling far afield is always great as well. My grandfather introduced me to my favorite kind of trip where you book flights in two different cities a week or so apart and drive between the two, creating an itinerary as you go. Together we've been on lots of adventures. I also usually get to spend a week or two every year traveling for work.

When I'm home though, I tend to be the kind of person who values simple pleasures. In the summer you'll find me sitting outside with a book and a drink enjoying the weather. Sunday mornings I'll cook a nice breakfast and read the paper. My friends and I enjoy tossing a frisbee around or playing bocce. We still break out the good old Wii and Rock Band on occasion and play.
What I’m doing with my life
Quite unexpectedly, I'm currently putting down some strong roots here. I just bought a townhouse in Arnold, and settling and moving in is now the biggest thing I'm doing with my life. Its been a winter of big changes.

I've also been working for a small, local engineering firm since I finished school. I spend my days trying to figure out how to make the technology that is coming 5-10 years in the future.
I’m really good at
If it plugs into a wall, or has a battery I can probably tell you how it works and how to fix it.

I'm good at making things, what I make depends on what I'm interested in, but I've had some great DIY successes ranging from an electric bass(only thing I didn't do was wind the pickups) to making a replica of Cambot from MST3K (kudos if you know what this is) to a big red button that plays the Benny Hill theme when you press it (useful for watching the Redskins). Next on the list is probably home brewing rice wine or sake.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm going to flip this question around a bit. The thing that makes people take notice of me is usually a sharp and witty remark.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
How about some that I think are pretty kickass? I do love all the traditional, nerdy stuff here (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.) . But these are a few uniquely awesome ones

Books: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Rough Riders, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (ongoing), Foundation and Empire, Dune Messiah, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

Movies: A Shot in the Dark, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Seven Samurai, District 9, Life of Brian, Reservoir Dogs

TV Shows: Psych, HIMYM, Parks and Rec, The League, Archer, Venture Bros., Game of Thrones

Music: How about albums instead of artists? Tales from Topographic Oceans, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Rubber Soul, Atom Heart Mother, Thick as a Brick, In the Wake of Posiedon, Brothers in Arms, In Through the Out Door, Pet Sounds, The Raw and the Cooked

Food: I'm a steak and potatoes man. Especially "Bradley's Special Potatoes" that only my mom can make. Nothing will ever beat it, even though many dishes try very hard
The six things I could never do without
Let's ditch the obvious "my friends and family", and go with my most needed creature comforts

Netflix, a good sound system (I admit to being a bit of an audio snob, though not the awful $500 cables guy), my awesome car, my lovely new bar cart (its amazing), a ceiling fan in my bedroom, and my collection of cloth-bound classic literature
I spend a lot of time thinking about
People, ideas, my relationships with people, where I'm going to find myself, what I'm working towards.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with my friends in some capacity. Usually at someone's house, or at a bar.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm fine with snakes and spiders, but I have to summon some courage to face mockingbirds and raccoons.
