according to my friends, i have a Rare Aura of Weirdness. i'm not sure if that is true- i'm waiting for someone with a more objective viewpoint to come along and tell me. i am also interested in making new friends who will cocoon me in more sweet, sweet lies. i'm not a morning person or a night person- i'm a middle-of-the-day type. i enjoy museums, aquariums, libraries, zoos, and other places that are filled with animals and/or information. i also enjoy the GREAT outdoors. i grew up in the country (complete with chickens and goats) and i miss the sky terribly. in general, i would rather get together with friends to Do Something than to Sit Around, although i do enjoy the theater (live or movie) every once in awhile.

it says so several times on here, but i think it bears repeating: i'm here for friends. i don't really understand the concept of dating. is that like a job interview for marriage? a better way for people to get to know each other is to become friends without expectations or ulterior motives. friendships of all varieties are awesome and i'd rather have a whole bunch of special people than just one really special person. like kurt vonnegut said "When a couple has an argument nowadays they may think it is about money or power or sex or how to raise the kids or whatever. What they're really saying to each other, though without realizing it, is this: "You are not enough people!""
What I’m doing with my life
i am a biology major (aspiring veterinarian with a special interest in ichthyology/aquatic animal medicine) with a checkered educational past. for now, i live in california during the school year and work at a vet clinic in central texas over the summers.
when i am not in school, i spend my days trying to keep busy- learning maths, cooking, reading (perpetually reading), injuring myself with crossfit, making messes (and then cleaning up the messes), playing sims, and goofing off.
I’m really good at
making cookies and killing fleas, but not usually at the same time
The first things people usually notice about me
i'm unbelievably shy and unbearably quiet
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books (are my best friends): Mutants by Armand Marie Leroi, A Fish Caught In Time by Samantha Weinberg, Parasite Rex by Carl Zimmer, White Noise by Don DeLillo, If On A Winter's Night A Traveler by Italo Calvino, End of Alice by A.M. Homes, The Castle by Franz Kafka, anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Women of the Way by Sallie Tisdale, The Serpent and the Rainbow by Wade Davis, Long Way Down by Nick Hornby, Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, Ulendo by Archie Carr, Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk, Rats by Robert Sullivan, The Invisible Circus by Jennifer Egan, Mouthing the Words by Camilla Gibb, Eels by James Prosek, Stiffed by Susan Faludi, Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss

movies: Resident Evil, The Parent Trap. and yes i think these should be combined into a cross-genre hybrid movie, too.

music: The Dead Milkmen, Tori Amos, Janis Joplin, Rasputina, the Tuna Helpers, Brave Combo, The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy, They Might Be Giants, Peaches, Korn, and so on and so forth... when i was 17, the radio started playing crap so i quit listening. my tastes are a little stagnant. i need a musical education.

food: i love mangos because they go mang. also avocados, lentils, salmon, beets!, cherries, butter lettuce, sometimes kale & cabbage, black beans, cow, a variety of sprouts, artichokes, yams... and yes, i'll admit chinese food and fritos, too.
The six things I could never do without
1. chapstick
2. the sky
3. books
3. animals
4. an imagination
5. friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how many cannibals are left in the world? is it worse, ethically speaking, to develop bio-weaponry or pharmaceuticals? are men really people or just lizard brains? how many kittens can i fit in that basket? what if i had ebola? when do i get to see/touch/eat a coelacanth? why are women so scary? where can i get some pure quality hugs?
On a typical Friday night I am
singing about all the Daves i know
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
whenever someone says gridlock, i think about waffle fries
