My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm into a lot of things right now. Gaming, karaoke, chess, and getting up unfortunately early. In a committed relationship with coffee.

I also knit occasionally. That's sort of a thing, too.

I'm a cellist in my spare time, which means I have a grueling practice schedule of "In the evenings, maybe."

Pansexual, cis, male.

Beard is sort of on and off. I don't shave when it's cold outside. I do shave when it's reliably warm outside. I don't really have a beard status preference, though, nor am I particularly militant regarding presence.

3 for 3 on shaving before the end of the hockey post-season and the Hawks winning. It seems like I have a legacy.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm currently a math teacher at *insert school here*. I teach Finite Mathematics, Algebra II, and Geometry. Hooray Math!

Share in my pain and/or joy as I murder my hands and relearn this piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JXx1HarBa4

(This has been updated! I'm murdering my hands with a different piece now!)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I would like to think I'm a pretty decent musician. I've been playing the cello since I was 10 (MATH PROBLEM! HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN PLAYING THE CELLO?! YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD ESCAPE HOMEWORK?! AHAHAHA...), and have taken enough scattered piano lessons and music theory classes to be able to sit down at a piano and EVENTUALLY get through whatever it is I'm playing...unless it's written by Liszt. I've never been frightened of music notes before. That's a new one. Is there supposed to be no white space and seventeen staves you read at the same time? In piano music?

I'm also good at Math. Hopefully, anyway-- I mean, after paying this much for the degree, I'd better be; otherwise, I'm asking for a refund.

I read like a champ...which is something that most "math people" don't normally say. It's confusing I know. You'll get used to it...probably.

I was just told by one of my fellow teachers that, whenever someone doesn't know something in class that, "Oh, Mr. *braynstorm* will probably know it." Pub Trivia has done wonderful things to my reputation, I guess. It also has to do with the fact that I have a seamless ability to turn my students' ever successful attempts to get me off topic into something useful...and eventually back on topic. Nothing brings me more joy than using mental judo to turn a topic about Marky Mark or slap wristbands or whatever the kids are doing these days back into a conversation about polynomials. My kids are less enthralled. I can get a few groans occasionally, though.

"How do you turn EVERYTHING into a math problem, Mr. *braynstorm*?!" It's the most treasured quote I have.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
is that I'm always covered in win and awesome.

Also, my modesty.

I also only really have two modes of dress. Either I dress amazingly when school is going on or I come home and put on a ratty t-shirt. There is no in between.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I'm an avid reader and I have the bookcases to prove it. (Eight and counting!) I prefer and tend to pick fantasy and science fiction books over most genres, but I will never say no to a good book.

Most recent read: American Gods by Neil Gaiman (I read Anansi Boys ten years ago and then realized it was a sequel. Finally got around to reading it.

I am now in possession of a domicile with enough rooms where my bookshelves do not have to be in my bedroom. Is there enough room for them to not spill back into my bedroom? For now. Talk to me in a few years.

I don't have a particular predilection for movies, in particular. I see them and enjoy them, but I don't have any favorites. Watching terribly made (and by that I mean awesome) Japanese Gore movies is hilarious...particularly while drinking or eating supreme pizza.

Godzilla and Zombie movies are also pretty awesome.

I love music and can appreciate most good music. When I am specifically looking for new music, I am more likely to be looking in heavy metal or classical (which is strange, I know.) but I consider myself widely eclectic and will not pass up on new music when it is offered to me.

As for food, I do not discriminate. I cook with everything and anything I can get my hands on. I make it a point to try every new thing I can at least once, and then try it again within a year if I didn't like it the first time. Alas, as many times as I have tried, I still hate grapefruit.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
organs and brainmeats.

Also, I've found myself uncomfortably attached to my phone as of late. My inner luddite is angry with me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
...I try not to think about it too much.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I run a table top gaming club after school on Fridays.

And then I come home and do MORE table top gaming with my friends.

You say too much? I say you've never played Sentinels of the Multiverse or Red Dragon Inn. Try not to play those games for six hours at a time. I dare you.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Every time I click the "Style Guide" button, I'm hoping a copy of Strunk and White's Elements of Style pops up.

Also, I judge people on whether or not they get some of the more general knowledge questions right...particularly if they involve math.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
-You are a musician, or if you want to be someday. (I CAN TOTALLY TEACH YOU!) I need more chamber music buddies.

-You're great at math...or not.

-You can cook like there's no tomorrow, want to learn, or want to be cooked for.

-You have a thing for writing utensils.

-You can talk about geeky stuff for hours on end.

Or...you know...if you just feel like it. Go ahead. Message me.

Please don't message me with the following opener:

"Oh, you're a math teacher? I was always terrible at math in high school."
