I am semi-adventurous, smart-alecky, and very... me.

My Self-Summary

I'm pretty geeky but like going outdoors and interacting with interesting folk. I'd rather be out dancing to good music or home reading a book or watching a movie or sitting by a campfire at the beach or in the mountains than in a loud bar yelling to other people, but i'll do that from time to time, too.

I like to play with fire, play with animals and play with reality.

What I’m doing with my life

I spend my work time designing and implementing a variety of web apps to make other people's lives easier. I spend some non-work time doing that too, for friend's business's and doing other geeky type stuff for burningman.com.

I also spend quite a bit of time dealing with music, particularly techno/house type, but i like all sorts of stuff. Going to clubs or to parties or outdoors and enjoying music takes up a bit of time, the rest recently has been involved with art stuff of various sorts.

I’m really good at

thinking too much
scaring myself out of talking to folks or doing new things
sending long rambling emails about inane topics
describing possibly bad qualities instead of good ones when asked for good things i do

hrmm... maybe i should go with:

picking interesting places to eat
finding interesting things to do
being in interesting places surrounded by interesting people

interesting's all subjective, but the stuff interest me. it could bore other people or amaze them. (i'm sure there's a whole country full of people that wouldn't find going out to Ethiopian all that exciting, but others are totally fascinating. maybe the same thing could be said about using a jet engine mounted to a pickup truck as a flame-thrower, but i'd be somewhat scared to find that country.)

The first things people usually notice about me

My lack of smile (even though i'm probably having a good time with them). Other than that? I dunno. It all kinda depends. It used to be "wow, you're nothing like what i expected" (from online rants), but that seems to have tempered down some.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

a) Earth Game, Tao of Pooh, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the Life of Pi,

b) Magnolia, Brazil and the rest of Terry Gilliam's stuff, La Jette, Princess Mononoke (and Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and other Miyazake),

c) acid jazz, alex patterson, ambient, autechre, axiom, bill laswell, dj food, dub, electro, fax, funki porcini, irresistible force, jack dangers, jah wobble, john zorn, king tubby, lee scratch perry, meat beat manifesto, mixmaster morris, old ska, oliver lieb, orbital, pete namlook, plastikman, pop rai, prince jammy, reggae, ritchie hawtin, robert rich, señor coconut, skatalites, spicelab, terre thaemlitz, the orb, the scientist, the upsetters, twilight dub circus, thievery corporation, john zorn, alice coltrane, sun ra, miles davis, bernie worrell, parliament, max roach, umm... i could go on for sdays with this

d) ethiopian, vietnamese, indian, thai, good.

The six things I could never do without

good food
good friends
star filled skies somewhere within reach
loud, clean speakers
new things to learn
a sense of humor to laugh at the silly things life throws you

actually, i think i just need the last two. if i were stuck on an island with nothing but food, i'd probably do okay running on the last one for awhile and then bouncing to the second to last.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

how the universe works and why.

On a typical Friday night I am

at home geeking, reading, watching a movie
or out with friends, at their place or out at a club or outdoors

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

didja see that thing about the first thing people notice? :)

You should message me if

you're interested in interesting conversation, going out to interesting places, dancing to interesting music, aren't annoyed by my overuse of the word interesting.
