My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
People have told me that they know when I'm in the building because of my laugh. Others have said that I was born to laugh-- usually following it up with "and she was born to be on the floor....", since falling over laughing has happened a couple times I guess. Oftentimes, I'm laughing at something incredibly ridiculous. Or my own corny jokes.

What I was not born to do is sing. But I still do it. Loudly. It's pretty bad.

This, of course, doesn't mean I'm not serious. I'm actually quite shy at first.

I love people. People I've known forever and people I'll meet tomorrow. Old people and young people. I spend a lot of time with people older than me. Related to this, family is key. I don't define family by blood, but by the bond we share. Mostly, this has made my family a lot bigger.

I love languages. I am doing my Ph.D in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies. I am Portuguese-- though I never went to Portugal growing up, I now can't go much time without feeling restless and needing to be back there-- my other home(s). I am in love with Lisbon, but my Azorean soul longs for my islands whenever I am away.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
A Ph.D. student. I eventually want to teach Portuguese language and literature, preferably in an area with a strong Portuguese community.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making others feel loved. Listening and being a good friend. Laughing at my own jokes (does this count?). Knowing the words to many corny songs in English, Portuguese or Polish. And singing them loudly and proudly. Not cooking-- but this summer, I'm making new efforts!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My smile. Or my laugh. I hear it's pretty distinct.
