My self-summary Propose an edit
Update: I don't have much time at the moment to meet new people
off "the internets".I don't mind an email or two if you have the
patience to wait to meet later.
I'm a complex yet simple person. My daily tasks revolve around my
attempts to change the world, my attempts
to make a living on my own, and my passion for education -- all three of which
I've decided to try and do at the same time. I've recently
re-discovered my love of writing, which is now wrestling with my
love of photography and reading for my spare time. You're
welcome to wrestle with either in my stead, but you'll have to do
it in the jello pit.
Which leads, of course, to my corny sense of humor. In general,
people who snort milk, laugh hysterically in quiet places, or have
been known to trip or bump into things tend to like me. Not that I
don't have smooth friends, its just that they bemoan my geekier
days, whilst the geeks bemoan my smoother days. I'm the kind of
person that people keep around if only to say "I knew him," as in:
I knew him before he went crazy, I knew him before the arrest, or,
my favorite, I knew him before he was assassinated.
My best asset is my intellect and if we make it to date #3
its likely because its your best asset too. I won't get into what
kinds of things can get you to date #2 but I welcome all creative
solutions.
Please don't let TV be the only thing you talk to people about. I
don't own a
TV and I will leave you with the check. I love to talk about
all sorts of topics and welcome someone who can stand their own
ground. Unless of course you are talking about a few taboo subjects
for which dissent is not allowed. Hint: Don't diss NYC or the
Bronx. I love them both dearly. ("diss" is acceptable English in
the context of referencing the Bronx in the same sentence, no?
Edit: I've now seen "diss" appear at least dozen times in the NYT,
what is that paper coming to?)
I have strong politics of the radical left variety. I'm not a fan
of liberalism or conservatism and generally like to think outside
the tessaract.
But I'm also anti-dogmatic and a learner. Consequently, my beliefs
change and I recognize that what I argue for with passion today, I
may argue against in five years.
I'm very much an autodidact, from my younger days teaching myself
math that my crappy schools did not, to my current exploits in
computer programming and painting. I tend to like people who share
the same zeal for learning and growing.
After growing extremely bored at the gym, I've taken to more
bike riding for
health and fun. I am currently doing a measly 10-15 miles a week,
but hope to train to get higher (current routine: 2 small hilly
runs 3-5 miles, and one mixed long run a week). I'd like to meet
more riders who think riding is less getting a zillion dollar bike
and wearing tights (neither of which I will be doing anytime soon),
and more getting out and exploring NYC area while enjoying the time
outdoors.
Caveat: As OkC increasingly has people who don't know what
the status "Available" means, let me spell out what it means in my
case: I have a primary relationship, but am still available to
develop meaningful, lasting, complex relationships with people who
share a vision for a different world. That includes the possibility
of a second primary relationship. I'm available for lesser exploits
as well, but its not my usual style. (Since it often gets asked,
no, my primary partner does not have a profile.)
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I'm a social entrepreneur in
education . I am
building a business with an underlying social vision and a profit
motive, in an environmentally sound way. The plan is to radically
change our approach to education in this country. Then, for my next
trick, I'll change the economic structure of the world by combining
anarchistic, small democracy approaches, western liberal
capitalism, and good old social ecology.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Listening, Photography, Cooking, trying new things, smiling,
dancing.
I've been told that I'm a talker. For better or worse, I can see
the title, though I am also quiet at times.
I am confident without being cocky. I am accepting, little by
little, that I have "alpha" male tendencies. Knowing this is the
best way to prevent it from making an a-hole out of myself. I
balance that characteristic with being good at knowing when not to
lead. For better or worse I fit the ENTJ description too
well, though I've worked for years to overcome many of the ENTJ
shortcomings.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
- Hair. Its long, all natural, hard to miss.
- Intellect. People usually pick up quickly that I'm smarter than
your average bear.
- Passion. Social issues, friends, family, job -- not in that order.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Somewhere along the line, OKC ate this section...It was so nice and
extensive.
Moreso than favorite lets talk a little about now, shall we?.
Current: The Blessing of the Skinned Knee. Recents: The Brief and
Wondrous life of Oscar Wao, The Creature from Jekyll Island (its a
horror story, just not the kind of horror story you think it is),
Small Island, Botany of Desire, Walden Two.
Now listening: Last two Citizen cope albums. Recents (according to
my computer): my three ladies (Ella, Nina, Billie), Marilyn Manson,
Baxter, Esthero and Anthony Santos. My musical tastes are very
broad. I tend to like what people I like expose me to and I'm not
overly picky.
Food: a lot of everything except seafood (allergy). In the words of
Rusted Root:"All I need is food and creative love." Good food is
important, and I'm willing to put the time into
cooking/baking/preparing it. I don't just follow recipes, I create
my own and have my own private cookbook and, yes, I have a private
spice label.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Freedom. A black Uniball Deluxe Micro pen (If you have one you get
bonus points). A problem to solve. A metrocard. A library card (I'm
being way too strategic about this...) Other sane, intelligent
human beings (is that like wishing for more wishes? Can I be
allowed to call such people things?)
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Big Ideas: How to Radically change the direction of our society
toward a vision of peace and equality? How to lead the education
system away from the testing sinkhole? How to force ourselves to
deal with society's problems instead of throwing people in prisons?
EDITORS
You should message me if Propose an edit
I suck at receiving OkC IMs.. so don't bother. If you see me online
for an extended time its because OkC is lost in my million Firefox
tabs.
You should message me if any of the following apply to you:
- Someone has said you're intellectually stimulating.
- People ask why do you analyze things so much?
- You don't own a TV
- You see things other people don't see (I mean you are perceptive, not hallucinating)
- People ask how do you find the time to do all that?
- You don't just trust the government because its the government.
- You've changed a major personal belief in the last 5 years.
- You're happy, but not complacent with where you are in the world.
- You want to leave a mark on the world.
- You don't end every sentence with a question mark.
- You're well read in a field other than your job.
- You believe a good friend challenges your beliefs and questions your assumptions.
If you like what I have to offer, but are more interested in queer girls than hetero guys, check the eerily similar, definitely cuter, lesbian version at: anitaon8th. Though a phallus comes standard in the BronxTalent model, it's optional for the anitaon8th edition. If you care about it, you'll also squeeze a few more miles of monogamy out of that model, but your mileage my vary with your driving habits.
