"Sucking at something is the first step to becoming sorta good at something" (Extra points if you know where it's from)
With that in mind I'm someone that tends to throw himself at almost any activity, regardless of my actual initial skill. Climbing, yoga, silks, dancing (salsa and swing ), windsailing are just some activities I tried on a whim. When I'm not staying physically active I tend to be socially active, so that means happy hours with friends, checking out random restaurants (Cosmic Cafe is an always favorite), board game nights (Agricola, Alehambra, CAH, etc) and now that it's open frequenting the Alamo Drafthoe as much as possible.
A lot of my passion and work in my life currently goes towards running a pretty active meetup group. I gives me an excuse to try everything from fencing to cooking classes, keeps me busy (in a good way) and I met may awesome people who have become some great friends.
My willingness to say yes to most things is a close second.
Physically, my calves. Running and climbing have shaped them into objects of praise..which truthfully is still kind of weird.
Movies: The short answer is that if they're showing it at The Alamo Drafthouse (which I been to plenty of times already) I'll probably enjoy it.
Books: I been starting to read more often again and actually started a book club, so I been reading lots of different stuff. So far I read Gaiman 's. The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Voices from Texas Death Row and Gone Girl. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August are two recent favorites.
Shows: I don't have too much time to catch up on tv but I always make a point to watch Venture Brothers, Bob Burgers, Rick and Morty, Walking Dead, and others. I been enjoying Brooklyn Nine Nine and Last Man on Earth as well. Smart and absurd is my favorite combination. Finally I would be a bad neeeeeeeeeerd if remiss to mention all the comic book shows (I could go on forever on why I love The Flash).
Music: Confession time: Music has never struck a chord with me (See what I did there?) Oh I listen to plenty, usually rock or anything with a good guitar riff and have a few favorite artists (Slash, K'Naan, Kirby Krackle, Adam Warrock) but if you would ask me to list a favorite song I would be lost. Upside is that I'm usually open to checking out any new music, so feel free to recommend some.
Podcasts are also pretty big for me. Serial has become my weekly must listen...even if at this point I don't know what to believe. Koening may as well have done it for all I know. My Brother, My Brother and Me, Car Talk, This American Life (really most of NPR offering), Doug loves movies, Smodcast, Giantbombcast...I listen to a fair share of them.
2)Shoes other than my work shoes (running, climbing)
3)An interesting board game
4)A good stout beer
Also how boring it must be to have natural talent. Struggling at things only to watch that slow improvement is the best.
Board game night
Heading out for a weekend camping trip
Visiting a local bar or restaurant with friends
Visiting the DMA
Staying in and catching up on my gaming backlog.
I just recently binged watched my first Netflix show. It was quite the experience.
If you're not afraid to say yes (and not just to new asking you out). Let's go try something new, regardless of our skill and afterwards laugh about how bad we were at it together.
