My self-summary
I'm complicated enough to like the simple things. I try to be as black as I am white, but as tough as it feels sometimes, grey is actually my favorite place to be. I couldn't exist without music or dancing or stories.
What I’m doing with my life
I took the leap from my LA life to fulfill a childhood dream of living in NYC at the beginning of this year (I watched Muppets Take Manhattan A LOT when I was little). I’m originally from Austin, so I don’t have a lot of cold/SNOW!/my-face-is-cracking experience but I’m honestly looking forward to my first blizzard.
NYC was love at first sight, so I’m in a serious honeymoon phase of pretty pigeons and adoring the subway despite my tendency to get on the wrong trains when I become impatient. (Just because they’re all on the blue line doesn’t mean they’ll all take me to 50th St.) I just try to have the best time I can figuring everything out- in the city, in my job, in myself, in life.
I’m really good at
writing, dancing, wasting time, eating lots of candy, crying at movies, staring at the sky, smiling on the subway, playing with animals, driving, picking friends.
The first things people usually notice about me
Since my kickass personality and gigantic, soft heart aren't wearing a mini-skirt, I'd probably say my legs and my smile.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: Peter Pan, Bel Canto, Tuck Everlasting, The Book Thief, Pride & Prejudice, Catcher in the Rye, anything by Marion Winick, Dan Savage or Augusten Burroughs, 80's era Stephen King, sociology books, thesauruses and books of verbs and adjectives... man, I wish I read more
movies: SO many... Thelma & Louise, Out of Sight, Pride & Prejudice, Dazed & Confused, Heathers, Romeo + Juliet, Ghostbusters, The Philadelphia Story, Rebel Without A Cause, True Romance, Lars & the Real Girl, Slumdog Millionaire, Kill Bill, Inside, Heat, The Departed, Resident Evil 1 & 2, Fast & Furious 1-5 (dead serious)
TV: Friday Night Lights, The Daily Show, Vampire Diaries, Downton Abbey, Generation Kill, My So-Called Life, Community (I only saw the first few & LOVED them. Note to self, check Netflix...), Dr. Who, CLONE HIGH!
music: Bob Schneider, Prince, Counting Crows, "Being Green" by Kermit the Frog, Ludovico Einaudi, any kind of New Orleans brass band, anything that makes me dance or makes me cry. I'm a musical idiot and rely on the kindness of anyone who knows better to introduce me to new stuff.
food: is my reason for living. Italian, TexMex, Korean BBQ, a great burger, Sushi, Thai, anything spicy, anything sweet, really anything but eggs. I love brunch, but I hate eggs- its my own tragic romance.
The six things I could never do without
dancing, sunlight, the color red, glitter, spaghetti, the rubber band around my wrist.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
why, how, where, when, and then who cares? I can think myself into the smallest tiniest crack in the ground and thankfully think myself back out again. And food. I think a lot about food.
On a typical Friday night I am
If I'm with friends, I'm laughing and probably out drinking wine. If I'm alone, I'm curled up somewhere writing. Both make me equally happy...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
...will only come out of my mouth in very intimate conversations. Unless I'm blogging. Or have had wine :)
