My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I just moved to Austin, and I'm looking to meet new people and looking to find fun things to do, especially if they involve good music, delicious food, or the outdoors (when the weather is better).

I like all sorts of activities including outdoorsy-adventurous things such as bike riding, hikes, wakeboarding, snowboarding, waterskiing, camping. I also like more relaxing, indoor things such as reading, playing video games, playing poker/board/card games, and watching good movies and television. I've been involved in soccer my whole life, first as a player and then as a referee, but other than that I'm not really into sports. I also love food, and I'm really good at both eating it and making it and especially good at eating the delicious and fun foods I make.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am working, trying to stay reasonably healthy, and looking for fun things to do in the Austin. I'm open to suggestions!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Memorizing random and mostly unimportant facts. Writing long lists of media I enjoy (see below). Getting injured in silly and surprising ways (although it has been a while) and riding in ambulances. Procrastination, a skill at which I am rarely equaled. It took me several days to start to write anything on this profile, and even now I'm only doing it because I should be doing something else. A corollary to that is that I'm really good at completing tasks at the last possible minute (homework, papers, packing when moving or going on a trip). Despite that, I'm also very punctual. If I'm not somewhere I'm supposed to be five minutes early, then it's because I've gotten lost or made a stupid wrong turn, something else I've been know to excel at on occasion.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm tall. Yes, I know that I am tall. No, I'm not getting taller, and I haven't been for many, many years. And no, I don't play basketball.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I love science fiction, fantasy, and quirky/absurd comedy. Even better are books that combine those elements, such as H2G2 and Discworld. Right now, I'm reading Song of Fire and Ice, Dark Tower, Star Wars, Discworld, Ender series, and Simon R. Greene's Drood and Nightside series (guilty pleasures). Also classics such as Dune, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, 1984, Frankenstein, and Brave New World. Even more nerdy books I really enjoyed are Freakonomics and Eats, Shoots, and Leaves.

Again, I enjoy mostly science fiction, comedy, and action movies. This includes Shaun of the Dead, This is Spinal Tap, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Contact, V for Vendetta, The Day the Earth Stood Still (original), The Truman Show, Hot Fuzz, Austin Powers, Lord of the Rings, blah, blah blah. Basically movies that are good as well as entertaining.

I like smart, witty comedies such as Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Community, and Archer. Battlestar Galactica (re-imagined) is probably my favorite series of all time, because it has strong science-fiction elements and also because of the superb writing, acting, drama, and the reflection on society good SF is supposed to provide. I also like really well done dramatic series, including The Sopranos, Justified, Damages, Lost, Breaking Bad, The Americas, and Dexter (except for the last episode, which ruined the entire series). Additionally, I love classic comedy series such as Get Smart, All in the Family, The Jefersons, Monty Python, and Fawlty Towers.

My musical tastes are a bit varied. I listen mainly to classic rock of all types, from the 60s through the mid-80s. I also enjoy orchestrated film soundtracks, such as those by John Williams (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and basically every important blockbuster), Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings), and Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica). I can also appreciate good jazz music. As for more modern music, I love The Black Keys and the Noisettes. I've also been listening to Fitz and the Tantrums, Alabama Shakes, and the Raconteurs. Also Spinal Tap.

Quite simply, I love food. I will eat just about anything. I am also very good at cooking creative and interesting recipes I've found online. I also love spicy foods, spicier than anyone I know can stand. I'm also quite partial to cheesecakes and cookie dough ice cream.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Computer and a fast internet connection.
Good music.
Good talk show podcasts.
An entertaining book to read.
Hot weather.
Good food.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend a lot of time thinking, period. I usually find it hard to stop. When I try, I end up thinking about trying not to think. I think a lot about politics, technology, my life, my future, economics, business ideas, and lots of other things. I think philosophically on society, humanity, the future, time travel. Also way too much time on exactly what I'm going to put in these silly profile essays.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Playing badminton and/or eating dinner with friends, working out, or maybe at home relaxing after a long work week.
