I am honest, quirky, and open-minded.
My Self-Summary
Laid back, social conscientious, and deeply into
independent music (WFMU
especially) I guess are things that first come to mind. I enjoy
getting to know where I'm living. Usually through long walking
journeys, produce shopping, locating interesting bars, cultural
outings and the like. I'm a heavy thinker and listener I suppose.
I've been living in cities for the past few years but I like to
stargaze a lot whenever I'm away from a city, so deep down I think
I have a thing for the outdoors. Fortunately I live near prospect
park. Looking to tap local produce and getting more adventurous in
the kitchen. I also like radio and the idea of not being able to
know what I'm going to hear. Old (somewhat corny) music I grew up
with still has a place in my heart with indie band flavor of the
week.
What I’m doing with my life
Just moved up here from a summer of peace work in Israel/Palestine
to get a grad degree in Public Administration/Policy. (also had a
great time farming with Palestinians)
I've spent some time in non-profits and in the good government
crowd in Philly. Looking to keep the studies going while getting to
know Brooklyn and hopefully get into the DJing scene.
I’m really good at
picking up hobbies and juggling all of them. The last few months
I've been coaching fencing,
DJing, studying Arabic, salsa danced a
bit, started a non-profit, and maintained a beer homebrewing co-op
on the side. Hard to know what I'll have time for up here. I hope
that doesn't sound cocky, I'm the first to admit I'm not amazing at
a few of these things too. The beer has all turned out good though
so far!
The first things people usually notice about me
okcupid: I don't have a lot of good pictures of myself
real world: I'm not much of an attention hog, especially when in
groups of people. But my social life is important to me too, I like
to go out when I can.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Music is one of the things that are really important to me. Its
hard to rattle off names because you always forget some that are
important but I guess important groups would be Animal Collective,
TV on the Radio, Girl Talk, MF Doom, The Pixies, Cut Copy, the
Roots, Justice, Radiohead, Dangermouse (anything he produces),
Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Diplo, Dan Deacon, James Brown, Otis
Redding, Earth Wind and Fire, Talking Heads, Jimi Hendrix, and A
Tribe Called Quest. I also grew up listening to a lot of classical
music, mainly Puccini, Debussy, Berlioz, Rachmaninov, and
Mahler.
Authors would be Nick Hornby (high fidelity/fever pitch), Sandy
Tolan (The lemon tree), Nietzsche, JS Mills, WEB DuBois, and
Nader.
I love local food. I'll eat anything. Very serious about that. I
don't watch a lot of tv but I'm a fan of Top Chef, Flight of the
Conchords, and MST3K. I'm a big soccer fan, so early morning trips
to a pub to watch English games happen every now and then.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
music, the things in life music makes you think about, politics,
food, eating food, social justice, figuring out what "social
justice" means in reality, the future.
