My self-summary
I moved to Boston after getting accepted to Northeastern's Sociology / Anthropology grad program. I spend a lot of time reading and writing, but I still love learning and getting new perspectives on the world. I also work as an all-powerful teaching assistant for undergrad classes (mwahaha), and I moonlight as a server / potential trivia master at an awesome restaurant / bar in Somerville.

I guess I can be a little shy at first but most of the time I'm not a quiet person. I play the piano a lot, probably half an hour to an hour every day. I love to read. I enjoy losing a good game of bar trivia with friends. Board games are also a lot of fun. I really value turning off my phone and being disconnected. I recently realized I'm allergic to too many things... hats for example. Fire's another; I don't know how I survived Boy Scouts. And then there's some mysterious food that keeps trying to close my esophagus and choke me. I actually feel it creeping up on me right now. Maybe this empty bowl of ice cream that's in front of me is the cause. Too bad, I'm not giving up ice cream.

I love traveling and exploring and talking to people from other places. I took some time off after college and went on some long trips through Costa Rica, Panama, and Thailand. My recent trip was traveling and working in Spain for a summer (okay, so I might have been a maid for a month, but it was in SPAIN). Also I'll just point out here that my 50-year-old cleaning woman friend took one look at my fitted-sheet ironing skills and said I'd make a great match for someone. So there you go. I also studied abroad in New Zealand and really want to go back (turns out I should've gone and shot Peter Jackson before he destroyed The Hobbit... yeah, I really really despise that movie).

tl;dr: fun, adventurous guy looking for (as Ron Swanson put it) "a strong, salt of the earth, self-possessed woman at the top of her field."
What I’m doing with my life
When I was a kid I told everyone I wanted to be Rick the Cow. That still mystifies everyone, including me. My other desired career was to be an iguanodon... you know, the dinosaur with the big thumbs. So I'd stomp around the house with my arms out and thumbs up. Maybe I'll bring that back.
I’m really good at
imitating Brad Neely's voice, like in Wizard People Dear Readers. If you're a Harry Potter fan and you haven't heard of this, I probably just made your day: http://archive.org/details/wizard-people
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Catch-22, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, Cloud Atlas, I Know This Much Is True, Lord of the Rings, 1984, Lord of the Flies, His Dark Materials, Harry Potter, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The World According to Garp, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Ishmael, Calvin & Hobbes... and get that Kindle thing away from me!

Music: Bruce Springsteen, Arcade Fire, U2, Coldplay, 2pac, Belle & Sebastian, Death Cab For Cutie, John Mayer, Muse, Laura Marling, M83, Regina Spektor, Florence and the Machine, Ben Folds, Vampire Weekend. I've been playing a lot of Giovanni Allevi, Ludovico Einaudi, and Joe Hisaishi on the piano lately, and they're fantastic, and you should check them out.

Movies: Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Star Wars, Wall-E, Into the Wild, Shawshank Redemption, Crash, American Beauty, District 9, Inception, Lost in Translation, Spirited Away, The Dark Knight, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Wrestler, Before Sunrise / Sunset / Midnight, and of course The Room.

Shows: Battlestar Galactica, The Wire, Seinfeld, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, The Newsroom, The Office, 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Lost, Curb Your Enthusiasm, House of Cards.
Podcasts are great when I have the time, I really like This American Life, The Moth, Wiretap, and Radiolab.

Food: Oh I can't believe I left this section so boring for so long. My favorite all time foods would include... The Truckstop from Centre St Cafe in JP, the cannoli from Mike's Pastry (okay I admit I haven't tried Modern Pastry yet), the Mel's Diner sandwich from Big G's in Waterville, Maine (chicken salad, sweet potato fries, cole slaw, onions, and cheese... yes that's all on the sandwich), S'mores in the summer (but you have to know the well-honed and time-honored technique to craft the perfect one), pho after a night of heavy drinking, JP Licks... yeah those are the few I can think of right now.
The six things I could never do without
-Thai Red Curry (since I've been back from Thailand I've been trying to make my own with mediocre results)
-A piano
-The Boss
-My pet Vulpix... I wish
-Nerdy board games like Settlers of Catan, Dominion, and Ticket to Ride. Watch out, I'm kind of good
-And gems like these from Steve Brule: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKIBgz2-tF8&feature=related
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Race, gender, class, inequality, and Westeros
On a typical Friday night I am

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I regularly check up on Pusheen the Cat:

I saw The Shining a few years ago and I'm still traumatized... every time I go to the bathroom at night I wonder if I'm going to make it back to bed alive
