Your Notes

I am eccentric, easily amused, and am online often.

My Self-Summary

[ FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm already seeing someone, but I keep making awesome friends through this, so I figured that I might as well keep it around. Yeah, true, it's more geared towards dating and less about networking, but the percentages and quizzes fascinate me. Feel free to contact me no matter what age or gender; if our interests seem common enough, let's chat. :) ]

My current groove is that I work the graveyard shift in the security command center of a manufacturing facility for the second half of the week, and play the roles of a beach bum and adventurer during the first half. I spend quite a bit of time on the internet at work, which has given me a knack for finding the most strange and unusual bits of information that you'll ever see. My days off involve all sorts of great times, often involving beaches or video games.

I'm quite an animal person. I absolutely adore cats.

What I’m doing with my life

Aside from the boring full-time job scene, exploring all over New England. I've been going to the beach a lot, usually bringing along my "treasure bucket" for any shells, sea glass, or trinkets that I may find. Hiking up mountains is always a good time, and I love getting lost in the woods. I'm a total sucker for the occasional road trip, and love to head to southern Connecticut once in a great while to throw $20 in the penny slots at Mohegan Sun to see what happens (spoiler: the house always wins).

I’m really good at

Monopoly: For some reason, I've incredible joss with this board game, so much so that when I was a child, friends and family refused to play me. It wasn't because I was a bully or a sore winner, I was just wily, building up my power on the sly, and more often than not, I'd outfox them somehow.

Texas Hold'Em poker: My family plays poker on occasion. I'm rarely one of the first few out. Though, I will admit, I need to work on my heads-up playing. I'm not nearly aggressive enough, and don't bluff often enough; too nice and too honest for my own good, I've been told.

Karaoke: I'm always singing along to the radio, and when I actually get to go to karaoke, I'm not all that bad. I usually get compliments. I can often pull off Barenaked Ladies and Dave Matthews Band, sometimes Peter Gabriel, sometimes Dire Straits, and I even like to throw in the occasional odd song, like "No More I Love Yous" by Annie Lennox.

Video Games: Shoot 'em ups, RPGs, puzzle games, MMPORPGs. I'm a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, the Half-Life games, and love almost anything involving Mario, Link, or Samus. I also occasionally play World of Warcraft, but I'm far too busy to get involved in guilds/raids drama/nonsense.

The first things people usually notice about me

Physically, I usually get compliments about my hair, or my beard, when it's present.

Personality wise, people notice that I'm shy at first, but I open up eventually. I'm just very reserved until I'm comfortable with my company.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I prefer fiction, usually stories of suspense, and especially Dean Koontz. I also like the occasional fantasy, and enjoyed both the Harry Potter series and His Dark Materials. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett are always good reads. I've nearly read all of James Clavell's Asian Saga. If I had to pick favorites, that'd be the entire Dark Tower series by Stephen King.

Movies: I like anything that's particularly well done, be it a horror, comedy, drama, even a musical. I also love movies with a believable, unforeseen twist. My favorite movies at the moment would be Serenity, Rent, The Ladykillers, Office Space, and all three Back To The Futures.

TV: I get a bit of downtime at my work, and we have internet access, so I usually go to television websites to catch up on shows. I'm currently caught up on House, MD, Heroes, Lost, The Office, 24, Fringe, Glee, Stargate: Universe, Lie To Me, Parks And Recreation, and Dollhouse. Retired favorites include Firefly, Quantum Leap, Gilmore Girls, and The Price Is Right (Bob Barker years; the Drew Carey stuff simply isn't the same).

Music: I like a wide variety, but some favorites are Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies, Aerosmith, Guns 'N Roses. I love radio stations that play a lot of stuff from the 90's. Lately, I've been on a classical flamenco kick, and I love to listen to new age and/or ambient stuff when playing video games that let you turn the music off; it makes pretty background music.

Food: Meat, pudding, almost any breakfast food regardless of the hour, coffee, ginger ale, bananas.

The six things I could never do without

Companionship, cats, music, video games, books, adventures. Mind you, I COULD go without those if I had to; I'd just rather not.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I like to plot out where to go and what to do with my days off. It's often imperative to get out of the house on a leisurely outing at least once a week.

I also have a strange fascination with depictions of the world in a post-apocalyptic sense. I like to walk around after midnight, imagining what it would be like to be the only person left in the world, or one of a few and how I'd survive. A little morbid, perhaps, but it's interesting to think about.

On a typical Friday night I am

Working, unfortunately. But the fact that I get three to four days off in a row due to a compressed workweek (12 hour shifts three or four days in a row) more than makes up for it. It's like having a mini-vacation every week. :)

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I really dislike talking on the phone. Doesn't mean that I flat out avoid it, but it's not often that I'll feel like gabbing on the phone for an hour or two about nothing in particular. I much prefer in person or instant messaging.

Yeah, that's not all that private, just quirky. I don't really have secret private stuff. I'm pretty open about everything. *shrug*

You should message me if

- you're really okay with just being friends. I really am happy with who I'm with.

- you enjoy exchanging random links and amusing videos back and forth; I'm quite talented in finding the most amazing things the internet has to offer.
