I am snowballs, guitar strings, and chickpeas.
My Self-Summary
I'm a HS Librarian. I've also worked at summer camps (in Minnesota
and, recently, Wisconsin) for the last 15 summers.
I love all kinds of music (and I'm not just saying that) and I play
several instruments.
I can name every country in North America, South America, Asia,
Africa (and maybe Europe) AND their capitals from memory.
I like to cook and eat good food, but I'm not snobby about
it.
I read a lot (hence the profession), and I enjoy good television. I
enjoy fantasy and sci-fi, but am not hardcore into either. Though I
do truly love comic books (and teach a class on them).
I coach field hockey and ice hockey and I really enjoy playing
sports. I'm in decent shape (or I try to be) and work-out daily,
but I'm not an "athlete". I enjoy being outdoors and playing in the
woods.
I enjoy games and brain teasers as well, but I've only ever solved
one Sudoku. I like board games.
I like 4 (real) seasons, and that includes cold and snow.
I make friends easily and people seem to enjoy my company. I can be
very shy and introverted at first, but I'm very outgoing once I
feel comfortable.
What I’m doing with my life
Right now: Coaching and Being a High School Librarian at an
Independent School. I teach 9th graders how to research, and 12th
graders why to read comics (but we call them Graphic Novels so the
admins think it's a legit topic for a class).
Also, missing Minnesota, but enjoying having a steady, fulfilling
job that pays the bills and I don't dread.
I’m really good at
Tag. Seriously. 18 summers-worth of experience goes a long way.
The first things people usually notice about me
Recently it's been a beard (which is nice to have when I'm in
Minnesota for the holidays), but it's been kept more neatly trimmed
as of late.
In the dark it's probably the glow-in-the dark rubber-band bracelet
that my cousin gave me.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: where to start? I'm a Librarian for a Reason... I like Neil
Gaiman, John Irving, Tolkien, Gordon Korman, _Lonesome Dove_ was a
fun read, Lots of comics, cookbooks, non-fiction about: language,
technology, sociology (my favorite Dewey decade is the 300s, but
I'm a big fan of 741.5, and 641.5). I love "Peanuts," and think
that Charles Schulz was _the_ literary genius of the last
century.
Movies... I've recently come to admit that I prefer TV to movies.
Some TV faves include: The Wire, Buffy/Angel/Firefly, How I Met
Your Mother, Bones, Boston Legal, Veronica Mars, The Office,
Battlestar Galactica, Mad Men, Pushing Daisies, Big Bang Theory, 30
Rock
I like Wet Hot American Summer, Iron Man, Rushmore, Idiocracy, Bill
and Ted, Lord of the Rings and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (anything
Apatow related, really)
Food: I'll eat anything that's not an Olive or a Grapefruit (though
their derivatives are okay) or that involves chocolate and peanut
butter mixed (blasphemy, I know). I like to try new things and I
enjoy cooking. I'm not vegetarian, but I can enjoy meatless meals.
I like Chickpeas too much, and I eat onion in some form on a daily
basis.
Music: I'll listen to just about anything, but I have strong
opinions. I have eclectic tastes (I know... everyone says that, but
it's true). Jazz, Progressive Rock, good Hip Hop (the clever
stuff), Classical/Orchestral/Symphonic. Sometimes I even like
Choirs. If you ask me about my music tastes (and better yet can
discuss them) you'll score big points.
Bands I'm into right now: Broken Social Scene, Wilderness, Los
Campesinos! TV on the Radio, Sigur Ros, Hem, She & Him, Girl
Talk, At The Drive In/Mars Volta, Retribution Gospel Choir, Low,
Death Cab, Grizzly Bear, DMB, The Weepies, Coheed & Cambria ...
hmmm... that's the surface.
All Time favorites include: Miles Davis, Steely Dan, YES, Faith No
More, the Police, Weather Report and Soul Coughing
The six things I could never do without
1:Guitar (representing music)
2:Chickpeas (representing good food)
3:Sandman (representing good comics)
4:Coaching/Camp (representing playing outdoor games and sports,
hanging out with kids)
5: A Library card (because it means free books and dvds and
cds)
6:A Blanket (representing shelter and comfort and keeping warm in
the cold)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Stories and Music
Snow
On a typical Friday night I am
Depending on the season, any of the following:
a)exhausted from a week of hard work and maybe watching a bit of
TV
b)coaching some flavor of hockey
c)hanging out in a comic shop playing nerdy (but quite fun)
games
d)in the basement playing guitar or ukulele, or trying to play
banjo or drums, and possibly singing loudly and badly
e)looking for an excuse to get out of the house...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I didn't get my driver's license until I was a few weeks shy of 27.
I still get nervous driving places that I've never been to, or
driving in cities (though not-too-trafficky highway driving is kind
of fun)
You should message me if
You're creative, clever, intelligent, smile a lot, appreciate
silliness with a bit of sarcasm, like good music and books (and
maybe even sports), are physically active/in shape, open-minded,
and also awesome.
I'm looking for equal partnership in a relationship, but I do
admire confidence and assertiveness in a woman (but not meanness).
I'm too shy myself to deal well with other shy people. It's nice to
be nice (though I appreciate sarcasm and a sharp sense of
humor).
I eat reasonably well, exercise daily, and am looking for someone
who does the same and is relatively fit. Physical attraction isn't
the most important thing, but it is important to me.
I don't enjoy drama, and if you're into playing "the game," I'm not
interested, but then again, if you've read this far and not left my
profile, you're probably not into playing "the game"
