I am a grandfather, father, brother, paddler, birder, musician and retired environmental scientist. My time is spent maintaining my relationships, pursuing my interests and doing what is necessary to remain independent and self-sufficient.

A typical week for me includes music jam or rehearsal on Tuesday and Thursday, kayaking on the South River with other paddlers on Wednesday and visits to the fitness center on four to six days. Spending time with my sons and grandchildren is important to me. In the past two weeks, I helped my younger son move into a new apartment in Brooklyn, NY and then drove to Western MD to join my other son and his three children for three days in a cabin.
For the past three years, I have gone to northern Florida for two weeks in the spring and to coastal Maine or the Adirondacks in the autumn. Museums and historical sites are a big draw for me and are always included on the road trips.
My biggest adjustment in retirement has been feeling "productive". I have found that enjoyment is a good substitute for productive.

I seldom read for pleasure. My reading includes the NY Times, Washington Post, Science News, Wooden Boat. I love "going down the rabbit hole" on the Internet.
Movies are my preferred medium. Documentaries and biopics on Netflix are favorites. Recently, I've seen To Rome With Love, Moonrise Kingdom, Monsieur Lazhar and liked something about each of them.
Celtic music, Old Time, jazz, swing, blues, folk, I like it all.
My food preferences are broad as well. I like French, Mediterranean and anything Mark Bittman is writing about.

My family and friends, my toys (kayaks, musical instruments, binoculars, iPad), the next trip or adventure, a private retreat, another 25 years of this journey and you.

The next adventure, road trip or tune I am learning.

In my school and work days, Fridays were my favorite and, now, everyday is Friday and none is typical. Most days I am cooking, listening to NPR and never far from an open bottle of wine. Come join me or, if you prefer, I'll bring my atypical Friday to you.

This questionnaire has revealed most of my mile wide and inch deep life style. There is little else to admit.
