My self-summary
So how does this work again: I list all the wonderful things about myself; we meet; and then you get to learn all the less appealing stuff that I neglected to include in my profile? Deal.

If I were into labels (nice way to sneak them in, eh?), I'm a jock/geek hybrid. I swam with the Philly Fins, spend my share of time at the gym, and can often be found in warmer months running all around the city. I've been running for 20 years, have done two marathons (Marine Corps and Chicago) and just feel pretty natural running. I get into long bike rides, and when I add all that together I usually do a triathlon each year. Though I've calmed down on the formal events so I can just have fun, and divert energy to other activities.

My athletic lifestyle gets me out of my head. I'm a bit of an intellectual and don't want to stay stuck up there. I love thinking about politics, social structure, religion and spirituality. When I sit down to watch TV, I love thought-provoking sci-fi/fantasy like Battlestar Galactica and Dr. Who. And then True Blood, but that's not doesn't require much thinking.

I'm very blessed with an amazing network of friends and family. I value those relationships above all else because they're what has gotten me to where I am. My friends are wacky and zany and that's exactly how I need them. Eccentricity appeals to me. Occasionally I'll go out dancing but I revel in life outside of the bar/club scene. House parties, a film, or a night out bowling are always winners with my friends and me.

One of my greatest passions is writing, though I haven't exactly figured out how to parlay that into a lucrative career. Check back about that one. I stop on the street and say "hi" to dogs and children. I'm an idealist and romantic. I think all relationships take work, but also the right people come into your life at the right time and make it that much better.

Oh - and I'm really not that much into astrology. My profile name is a reference to Battlestar Galactica/Caprica. I'm convinced that sci-fi is my G-spot.
What I’m doing with my life
I try to limit my work week to 40 hours so that I have time for all the things I love. I enjoy writing (human interest journalism; short stories; plays) and reading. I'm considering going back to school for a Ph.D., and continuing where I left over with my B.A. twelve years ago. I'm pretty athletic (see above). I love to travel. I've been to four continents and plan to visit Asia this winter. I will never forget the experience of waking up in a Muslim country during Ramadan. My friends and family own my heart. I spend as much time with my loved ones as possible.
I’m really good at
Cooking and eating; making new friends; playing with kids and animals; deconstructing a novel or film with critical theory; getting excited over innovative sci-fi, effective melodrama, slapstick comedy, or wily camp.

Being a daddy to my two cats. I saved them from ill repute after they were born to a homeless, unwed mother. I was never a cat person but they fit me perfectly. Once I concluded that they thought of me merely as the bigger cat who provides the food and warmth, everything was A-OK.
The first things people usually notice about me
You'd have to ask them. I do sense that I tend to surprise people. (I initially look more serious and pensive than I act.) I like that in others, too; it's fun stuff when we exceed each others' expectations.
