My Self-Summary
I like learning stuff about ideas, places or people. I guess I find
everything interesting (travel, mycology, politics, cycling, art,
cooking, hockey, etc.) and only get bored when I stop expanding my
horizons.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm writing a Ph.D. dissertation in philosophy, which means that I
spend lots of time writing little comments in the margins of
photocopied journal articles. I'm spending this summer in the Czech
Republic and apart from writing two brilliant chapters, I want to
get to know even more cool stuff in Prague.
I’m really good at
Finding ways to goof off and not do my work. Actually, I'm pretty
good at some other things too, like "freestyle" cooking, finding
shortcuts, fixing things, buying cool stuff at import stores, and
some other stuff. I'm getting better at darts ever since I found a
bottle return place (in Syracuse, NY, where I happen to be now)
that gives you 8c/bottle if you can hit the bullseye in one of
three tries.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Here are two of each: Nassim Taleb - The Black Swan, Neal
Stephenson - The Diamond Age; Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Once;
Camper Van Beethoven, Primordial; soups with coconut milk, curries
with black beans. Obviously, I like lots of stuff besides this.
This isn't close to an exhaustive list even of my recent favorites.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Causation, time and causal loops (professionally), how to fix the
world (recreationally).
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends (USA) or in with books (CZ).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm actually in a relationship that makes me happy, and I'm hoping
it lasts!
