My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
(by "silver-tongued" I mean I can write eloquently [and speak so as well on a good day], not that I'm a sleazeball who tells people what they want to hear. :P)

I can write well, but I'm not a Writer. I'm learning to draw, but I'm no Artist. I make (electronic) music, but I'm not a Musician. I like photography and yet I'm not a Photographer. I am all these, and more!

I'm tentative at first and it takes me a while to become comfortable around someone I've just met.

I'm an INFJ on the Myers-Briggs scale.

I'm left-handed.

I was born on the Virgo/Libra cusp.

I DJ drum & bass as a hobby, and though I'm extremely modest I dare say I'm not half bad at it. I also produce my own D&B tracks. I'd really like to get a track signed to one of the major labels some day. Or maybe I'll just gather some comrades and start my own!

Ignore the Less Desiring of Sex badge. It's B.S., much like the lack of a More Kinky badge. ;)

I am fiercely loyal to my family and friends, and am respectful of everyone until that respect is abused. I have a very strong sense of ethics and morality. There is virtually nothing that will get me to compromise my standards - personal integrity is something I value very highly, both in myself and others.

I'm usually very tidy and organized, although I do occasionally have lapses where I let things go. I am quite scatterbrained.

I've got a lot to offer someone who's tired of flaky guys and wants to be treated well consistently. I'm naturally caring and affectionate, totally devoted, and I love "sappy" romantic activities. Apparently I am one of the few guys in southern California who are keeping chivalry on life support. I don't "keep score" - I do nice things for people because I delight in making them happy, not because I expect the favor to be returned. I steadfastly refuse to play mind games and believe in the value and necessity of open communication.

I hope I never have to write so many consecutive sentences or paragraphs that begin with "I" ever again.

はじめまして! 日本語がまだ上手じゃありませんけど、本当に習いたい。教えてください! ^_^

What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Right now I work for Sony Online Entertainment as a QA tester on EverQuest II. It's interesting work since I'm fascinated by the ways in which large software systems break down, but it is very different from actually playing the game. My slightly-longer-term plan is to become a console game programmer.

Eventually I would like to move, perhaps to Seattle, although that goal keeps getting postponed for various reasons. Anyway, aside from necessity I don't think there's much that can keep me in southern California for much longer.

I want to go to graduate school eventually, not least because I so enjoy learning things. Also, it seems that with each passing day I become more interested in teaching/professing.

Ten-year plan? Pay off student loan debt; go back to school and become qualified to teach; have some life experiences; master one of my hobbies. I'd prefer to meet Miss Right much sooner rather than later in that time frame. When I was younger I'd always planned to be a financially solvent, happily married family man by about 30, but it looks like I'm running out of time to meet that goal. Oh well. Better late than never, right?

Another major goal of mine is to become fluent in Japanese. I also would like to learn (at least) Korean, Russian, and maybe Farsi as well. Can you tell that non-Roman writing systems fascinate me?
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being modest. Sounds like a contradiction to admit that, doesn't it?

I like to think that I'm a good programmer, although I fear that my skills are getting rusty from disuse.

I'm good at writing expository and persuasive essays, which is a shame because none of the classes I have left require eloquent writing.

My friends don't bother keeping a dictionary around because they have me!

And of course I'm the best driver on the road. ;)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Generally either my height or my social reservedness. I've been told by several people that I come off as intimidating at first, because I'm often quiet and guarded around people I don't know. Apparently my shyness can be mistaken for aloofness.

My hands seem to garner a lot of attention, typically because they're on the large side. I also get a lot of comments on how deftly I use them. Take that as you will. ;)

My face tends to flush easily, but it rarely means I'm embarrassed.

Books: Neuromancer and Idoru by William Gibson. Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. The dictionary. 1984 by George Orwell. Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis. Noam Chomsky. Chuck Palahniuk. Marxism and socialism. Eastern philosophies and religions. Politics. Graphic novels... As with music, I'll look into anything that sounds interesting. I just finished Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts (fantastic book, by the way) and am looking for a new novel to start on. Any suggestions?

Movies: Anchorman, Austin Powers, The Big Lebowski, The Boondock Saints, Borat, The Bourne series, The Departed, The Fifth Element, Get Shorty, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Layer Cake, The Matrix, Men in Black, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pulp Fiction, Rush Hour, Saw/Saw II, Snatch, Talladega Nights, The Usual Suspects, Zoolander

Music: First, some genres. Industrial, electronic, drum & bass, rhythmic noise, some plain ol' rock. I'm also starting to like a lot of jazzy-type stuff I've been hearing, but don't really know any names or styles yet.

Now, some artists. Akira Yamaoka, Amit, Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Bad Company UK, Black Sun Empire, Ch District, Collide, Converter, Depeche Mode, Front Line Assembly, The Future Sound of London, Kidneythieves, KMFDM, Medeski, Martin, & Wood, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Noisia, Phace, Portishead, Prodigy, Rage against the Machine, Scorn ("Greetings from Birmingham" era forward), Somatic Responses, Soundgarden, Spor, Stabbing Westward, Stanton Moore, Tarmvred, Tech Itch, Thievery Corporation, This Morn' Omina, Tool, and many, many more. I love music, and hearing new music. :D It excites me like little else can.

Foods: Just about anything chocolate, especially dark/bittersweet. Mint things. Chocolate mint things. Coffee! Eggs Benedict. Lots of Mexican and Italian. Horchata. Sushi. Strawberry Nirvana smoothies from Jamba Juice. Chai tea. Give me a hot, sweet cup of chai and a clove cigarette and all's right with the world.

I've been known to cook some pretty tasty things as well.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My family.
A computer with Internet access.
Music.
Love and intimacy.
Something to read.
Intellectual challenge.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The future.

On a related note, I do a good deal of daydreaming. Like the artist that lurks beneath the surface of this engineer, my favorite subjects seem to be either romantic or sensuous in nature (that's sensuous, not sensual - there's quite a difference). Worlds of sights, of sounds, of feelings far removed from the world in which I spend my waking hours.

Politics: Specifically, I think a lot about the bipartite American electoral system, financial influence, social and corporate responsibility, government's relation to the governed, health care, and socialism.

I'll go ahead and throw sex in there as well for honesty's sake. I find human sexuality and sexual psychology infinitely interesting. And I guess I'm just a hornball most days. :P
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Unwinding from the work week. This usually involves reading, having coffee with some friends, and/or going to bed early.

I'm not really one for parties or big social gatherings. I would much rather hang around with a couple of close friends or that special someone and watch movies or something. Oh yeah, and I love board games. My favorite would have to be Scrabble, although I also enjoy the occasional rousing game of Monopoly, Risk, Pictionary, or Scattergories.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I sing in the car.

Face-to-face I'll answer most questions you ask me. There are few areas I won't venture into if your timing and tact are right.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You like intellectual conversation. I have a decent breadth of things I can talk about, as well as abyssal depth in a few.

You seek something long-term.

You're open to meeting in real life. I like meeting face-to-face as soon as possible. It doesn't really matter how well we get along via email; if there's no spark in person it's not going anywhere. And few things suck as much as having a crush on someone's writing and finding out much later that you don't mesh with them in person.

You share a passion for any of the same things I do.

You know when to use "who" and when to use "whom," but are pragmatic enough to understand that super-correct grammar can sound unnatural. I'm a recovering grammar snob.

You realize that their idiosyncrasies are what make people unique.
