My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
INTJ

By nature, I can be happy being alone, but I am very inquisitive about other people.

I haven't updated my website for a few years, and by now I've forgotten how to update it, but it's got lots of detail: http://www.gjbgraphics.com/usefulstring/index.html
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Last year I retired. I'm considering moving to Herndon, VA.

I've had a bad year with health. I've been in almost constant pain and had a few strokes which I'm recovering from. There was a week last December when I could hardly talk or spell. I recently completed speech therapy (May) and am playing word games like taboo. My relatives and close friends still know I'm having trouble, but casual friends don't notice and forget. I've been swimming and losing weight constantly (a nice side-effect of pain meds) so I have gratitude for that. Sorry, right now I'm not a great candidate for dating.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
singing in harmony.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
is that I'm friendly and comfortable with people. People eventually learn that I'm introverted.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest took me two years to read. Nevertheless, it's the best novel I've ever read.
Next time I read Middlemarch, I'll use a pencil to underline Elliot's insights.
Neal Stephenson - Quicksilver, another big book which is taking a long time to read.
Gödel, Escher, Bach.
Spiritual stuff by
Henri Nouwen,
Richard Foster,
Annie Dillard,…
Walter Wink on non-violence.
Hebrews.

Music: Bluegrass, baroque, blues, big band. If it begins with b I like it? I recently discovered Hildgard von Bingen (1098- 1179, check her out on Pandora)
But no autotune please.

I most enjoy music made by friends. I like local talent in general.
My son does standup as a hobby. My grandson acts and is amazingly good.

Foods: I'm adventuresome with food, but I always order Palak Paneer at Indian restaurants. Favorite foods: pickled herring, fresh tuna, sweet basil (but not all at the same time)

Movies: I have a huge list of favorites. I like to recommend them to friends
Kurosawa, Campion, Ashby
Favorites dujour: Painted Veil, Secretary, The Whole Wide World, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Lives of Others. Robocop - Old one and new one, Dean Spanley. I recently revisited Breaking Away which has stood the test of time.

Television - Homicide, Firefly, Deadwood, Sherlock, Slings and Arrows (Canadian), MiddleMarch (Well done as PBS series), An Honourable Woman (English), The Americans... My current all time favorite is Rectify -if you can't find the Sundance channel, go to Netflix.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
love, music, gratitude, family, water-aerobics, sodastream
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
what plot can I build in a novel. Still haven't found one. I don't think my own life has a plot. When and if I write a novel, it'll be a snoozer.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
retired, so what day is it?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
is social failures/embarrassments of my past. But some of my greatest joys come as a result of social risks I took.
You might be my next social risk.

...you don't have to tell me you have a sense of humor. Everybody has one.
You don't have to tell me you don't look your age. If you haven't revised your profile lately and you stated your age three years ago, you might want to proofread that. And telling me you don't act your age is not something to brag about.
If you are lonely or bored, I'm sorry but I won't be able to help you very much; I don't understand lonely or boredom.
If you are one of the many who "lives life to the fullest" in his profile, I really don't know what you're talking about. Do you?

So much for ranting. You like conversation and would like to swap book, tv, and movie recommendations, message me.
I'd be delighted if you're willing to use Skype!
