Messaging tips?

Aug 23, 2010

So been on the site a few months now and starting to get into the swing of things (I think). It took me a while to get the bottle to actually message someone and now starting to message a few girls with profiles that I like the look of; however none of them have actually replied back to me. Not even with a polite "please leave me alone I'm not interested in short, slightly overweight geeky guys!"

Now I'm not being too forward, trying to be funny (prob failing here tho!) and trying to ask questions rather than just make comments or statements that doesn't give them a reason to reply.

Anything I'm missing or should I just keep at it and eventually someone might reply??!?

Messaging tips?
An image of Ineke1980 To be fair, a lot of women on this site get a lot of messages. I get about 4 or 5 a day, and I am certainly not the most popular on here. A girl that has attracted your attention and that you found interesting enough to message has most likely got a lot of other guys interested as well. As for the whole not replying thing, I try to reply as much as I can, but sometimes there is just a "no way" or a "If I message back it might seem like opening a door, where as ignoring is much clearer" al though I know it is unfair to the person who actually went through the trouble of sending me a message.

An image of writenotright I don't reply to most of the meassages I recieve. But then again I suffer from Rhetoricalitis so it's no suprise really. You should jut keep trying until you succeed.

What Ineke said. Plus many have profiles on other dating/networking sites to keep up as well plus regular mail... it's a full time job just replying to mails.
That said... I didn't read your profile, and to be perfectly honest, if you mailed me I wouldn't either. To me your nick is off-putting and that thumbnail doesn't really improve the impression. It might be funny as an additional pic, but if you are here for serious dating, I think perhaps you'd do better with a different thumnail.
.
Good luck! :-)

I'll chime in... As Ineke1980 said, girls get a ton of messages, especially the very attractive ones, mostly very boring messages to borderline creepy. If you're really curious about it, try to befriend a cute girl on her and ask about it. Some notes, 1) Get together a bunch of your favourite pictures and ASK female friends which looks best!! So important and gives you the best chance of being noticed. A simple change in mine easily got me 3 times as many reply and girls messaging me. 2) Your username is saying all the wrong things about you, if a girl is even getting a couple of messages a day, she'll easily ignore yours. 3) Use subjects with questions, make them curious about your message so they have enough reason to open it up. Another 'hey' subject is gonna get left behind. 4) Don't just talk to girls you're interested in, message a bunch of them to learn what works and what doesn't for subject lines and what makes a good opener. 5) Ask questions, specifically about their profile, proving you actually read it, hopefully showing you have some interest in them as a person, not just after a pretty face.

An image of caveman_dick Thanks for the comments everyone. Wasn't actually expecting anyone to comment at all!!! @occhamsstiletta I suppose what you are saying about my username is prob right, it's one I've had for years and just habitually use it everywhere now. It actually comes from when I used to have long hair and my friends said I looked like a caveman, and my real name is Richard hence the dick part. But then again most people are going to jump to different conclusions as you have! :) Now can I actually change it or do I have to start again... @Irish-Johnny Good idea about the pics however going back to GSCE maths, I seem to remember 3x0 is still 0! ;)

An image of caveman_dick So just checked, no I can't change my username I have to delete and re-create my account. Either that or setup a new one under a different email address. Something for another day now I think!

Also, it's the "I am a geek but don't let that put you off" thing... I am a geek and I want to meet other geeks. I don't like the "oh geeks are bad, I hate myself" vibe that comes off. :)
