My self-summary
I'm a divorced father of three great kids that keep me honest. I'm a musician who enjoys playing everything from Bach to rock. Sometimes my work even allows me to be a knight-in-shining-armor, which is especially fulfilling. (Aside: long ago, all of my high school/college buddies and I decided that one of us had to go to law school to bail the rest of us out. I drew the short straw. C'est la vie.)

I'm more active than passive. More summer than winter. While I own a TV, it's rarely on. I have an active mind, and I'm tactile. I'm open to learning, and crave new adventures and experiences.

I'm blessed with a high metabolism that keeps me at a runner's build. So, for the sake of truth-in-advertising, I'm fit but on the slim side.

I'm also a Southern, small-town kid at heart -- but took to city life like a fish to water. I've lived in Manhattan, Miami and Baltimore. Somehow I'm back in the small town again, though. (To quote David Byrne, "How did I *get* here?!") I'm sure I'll end my days back in a city, and I always jump at the chance to explore an urban jungle. Then again, I also love an hours-long hike where I don't see a soul on the trail. I guess I need both, and I think both would be more fun with a partner.

I'm initially looking to date, and then something more serious if it naturally evolves into that. If there's chemistry, we'll know it. In the meantime, let's have some fun. If you've made it this far, drop me a line and say hello.
What I’m doing with my life
Apparently this. . . ? Actually, one of my guitar heroes summarized it this way: "I love being alive and I will be the best man I possibly can. I will take love wherever I find it and offer it to everyone who will take it . . . seek knowledge from those wiser and teach those who wish to learn from me." (Duane Allman) Yep, that.

I also got a great nugget of wisdom from a fortune cookie once: "To be a man means constant revision like correcting a writing." I still have it on my bedroom mirror. So yeah, I'm doing that too. But I'm *not* posting pictures taken in front of same bedroom mirror. Apparently that's done a lot?
I’m really good at
playing guitar, according to some. Sizing folks up in a matter of minutes (but not judging them). Going with my gut feeling. I also make a killer mix tape, and an even better ginger butternut squash soup.

If I have a superpower, it's finding on-street parking in a big city, or a close parking space at a crowded location. Eerie, but convenient.
The first things people usually notice about me
My quick wit, sense of humor and smile. I've been told that my eyes are inquisitive, warm and make others feel at ease, but I'll let you judge that for yourself. You’ll have my full attention when I’m with you.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm enjoying the variety of great microbrews being put out today, especially an imperial stout or double IPA -- something with a full body and kick to it. I prefer a strong red wine over white. Love sushi, Italian, Thai, Ethiopian and fried chicken. Barbeque!
I'm passionate about live music, but I don't seem to get out to shows as much as I think I should. That's a constant work in progress.
Musically, I'm all over the place: my mainstay is classic rock, but I often veer off into funk, singer/songwriters, jazz, jambands, house, trance and even some bluegrass and classical. I cut my teeth on the Allman Brothers Band and Led Zeppelin, so I always come back to them for musical comfort. A sampling of my current iTunes includes Donny Hathaway, Thievery Corporation, U2, Paul Weller, Iron & Wine, Robert Palmer (first album), Keith Jarrett, Jeffrey Gaines, Chris Cornell, Foo Fighters, The Cars and the Dave Rawlings Machine.
Some favorite movies include "Once," "The Big Lebowski" (heck, most Coen Bros. stuff), "Smokey and the Bandit" (guilty pleasure) and 80s comedies. Just saw "Limitless" and liked that.
Off the top of my head, some favorite books include "A Joseph Campbell Companion," "The Catcher in the Rye," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are" (Alan Watts). I was recently on a biography/autobiography kick too.
The six things I could never do without
In no particular order:
My personal relationships
My guitar
Witty banter
Flannel sheets in the winter
Sex (there, I said it - and it's a deserving #7)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how I can be someone's "enemy" on OKCupid. Seriously?
(These lyrics spring to mind: "It's obvious you hate me, though I've done nothing wrong; I've never even met you so what could I have done?" Name that tune.)
On a typical Friday night I am
alternately, out-and-about on the town or just being Dad. Find out for yourself?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've never worn flip-flops, but I'm trying to open up to the idea.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 35–46
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
you like what you read and see. Isn't that the point of all of this?
Oh, and if you like to be serenaded to sleep by an acoustic guitar. I've been known to do that, but only if you're lucky. ;-)
