My Self-Summary

Words are entirely inadequate here... Instead, I think it best if we
perform a brief interpretive dance. Ready? Excellent. Now, you'll
notice as we -- pardon my shoulder, there -- you'll notice as we move
that I'm rather tall. I used to play basketball, but I'm more into
hiking these days. Here, take my hand, let's go out onto the
grass. You've done this before, haven't you? Very graceful; I'm
impressed. That music drifting through the trees is something I heard
this morning. There's always a tune or rhythm in my thoughts, I'm glad
you're here to share it. We draw closer now: there is so
much I'd like to know about you. What inspires you? What drives the
rhythm of *your* thoughts? As our shadows mingle before us... what? Hey yeah, I never noticed that leafy path before. Good eye; let's ditch this place. On to the next grand adventure!

What I’m doing with my life

I play in a several improvised music groups (voice, guitars, drums, bass, keyboards), and do mixed-reality research with dynamic software and virtual worlds at a research lab. I just got a waycool folding bike and am having fun tooling around the bay area on it. I have a serious travel bug, and look forward to touring Italy. I have degrees in music and computer science from UC Berkeley. I think music improvisation and dynamic software are a great match; I've met many strange and wonderful people through them.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at making and recording music (if you like the thought of someone writing songs for/about you, I'm your guy :), making people laugh, object-oriented programming, cooking scrambled eggs, and improvising useful stuff from found objects.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

me talk real good

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

The tips of some icebergs... book: "If On A Winter's Night a Traveler" by Italo Calvino; film: "I Heart Huckabees" by David O. Russell; music: "One Size Fits All" by Frank Zappa; food: yellow curry chicken; websites: tmcm.com, phdcomics.com, theonion.com, avclub.com.

...but what's really eating my brain these days is podcasting. My current favorites are This American Life, Savage Love, Le Show, Spark, All Songs Considered, The Onion Radio News, Over the Edge, and the mighty mighty Radio Lab. I've started editing some of my own things, too.

The six things I could never do without

I could never do without my hearing, sunlight, the ocean, irony, one good friend, counting past six.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I spend a lot of time thinking about alternative energy, for transportation in particular. I would love to get into that field... it seems like where I could do the most good nowadays.

On a typical Friday night I am

On a typical Friday night I'm at the movies! The Parkway Theater in Oakland and the Stanford Theater in Palo Alto are my current favorites. On Thursdays I'm jamming with friends in my recording studio; you should join us!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Sometimes when I can't think of what to write I lapse into the second person.

You should message me if... aw, c'mon, go for it :)
