My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I love trying new things and hanging out with people. I am a very relaxed person and I am much more comfortable in small, intimate groups than big, crowded parties. I enjoy Cincinnati Reds baseball, movies, politics, history, and comic books, and I follow a few TV shows (embarrassingly Gossip Girl and Grey's Anatomy are among those few)- mostly serial dramas. I like being active and playing sports, especially tennis, basketball and golf although I too rarely can convince my friends to join me in "boring sports" like golf or baseball. I am a birthright Quaker and come from a very liberal meeting (church), although these days I end up attending a secular humanist conversation group on Sundays more often than I get to meeting for worship.

I am considerate, loyal, and laid back
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm currently working on a degree in history and working at a grocery store as well as an Oriental rug store and art gallery in Broad Ripple. In the summers I also work as a youth camp counselor. I would eventually like to teach history. Just trying to enjoy myself as I move toward that goal.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I am good at being reliable with people. I take pride in my fierce loyalty to my friendships and always being there for the people I care about.

As far as random activities, I try to be good at golf but since most of the time I fail at that I take comfort in my amazing miniature golf skills. I really enjoy board games, especially those involving strategy and tactics. Even though I am not an aggressive or competitive person in general when it comes to board games I am pretty ruthless, they can really get my blood up. I also excel at trivia games and have been told I know way too much "useless stuff". It's not really useless if it comes up on Jeopardy though, right?
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I think I generally make sort of bland first impressions. I tend not to warm up to people very fast and I am the kind of person who is content with my small tight knit circle of friends so I don't make a big effort to go out and meet new ones. However if people do get to know me more than a little they notice that I have a good sense of humor, am very considerate and generally friendly even if I am a bit on the quiet side. I am very talkative with those close to me though.

To quote a favorite film of mine, "It's not what you're like, it's what you like." Although I don't agree with this 100%, it is the reason I have a lot in this section. What you like is important.

Books: classic literature (Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Edith Wharton), fantasy (Tolkien, George Martin, Harry Potter), historical books and biographies (especially ones by McCullough), comic books and graphic novels (Alan Moore, anything Marvel). I haven't really read any other humorists but I don't think anyone could be funnier than David Sedaris, I've even seen him read a couple times.

Movies: all kinds, especially period action films (Gladiator, LA Confidential, The Untouchables), chick flicks, silly action films (Seagal, Van Damme, Bruce Willis), classic suspense films (Hitchcock), anything with John Cusack (especially High Fidelity and Say Anything), Keira Knightley, or Russell Crowe

TV: I tend to follow serial dramas, some that are silly and some that are quite amazing. My absolute favorites being LOST, The Wire (a show I think every American should watch as it is about vicious cycles perpetuated by bureaucratic inefficiency and corruption in this country's large cities), Firefly (and pretty much all other shows by Joss Whedon), The OC, BSG, Cowboy Bebop (I love how amazingly the music is integrated in to the show) and my current favorite is Mad Men. Ongoing series I watch now but not too faithfully are Grey's Anatomy, The Office, True Blood and Gossip Girl.

Music: Indie rock (my current obsessions are Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Snow Patrol, Death Cab, Jenny Lewis, Regina Spektor and Metric), pop (all that awful catchy stuff on the radio), '80s alternative (The Cure, The Smiths). I love the radio! Primarily I enjoy finding horribly catchy and embarrassing pop music to blast and sing along with in my car, which I usually turn down when arriving at a red light. I grew up listening to NPR where I picked up a taste for blues, classical and jazz. This also resulted in listening to a lot of news programs, I try to catch Diane Ream as often as possible and especially enjoy PRI's The World. Of course I also listen to a lot of Reds games due to the lameness that blocks out Indianapolis from video streaming.

Food: coffee, Red Bull, Bawls (I live off of caffeine); steak, Fuji apples, Cheerios and milk (for any meal), anything easy to make (spaghetti, scrambled eggs, couscous); milkshakes are a weakness
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Cell phone, computer, friends, baseball, bad movies (they make me laugh), car (I like road trips)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Most of my free time I try to think up things to do. I also like to spend time alone to meditate and reflect with some good music or go on a walk. This may be a bit odd but I am a big fan of people watching, I love to sit in waiting rooms, airports, parks and other places and just kind of observe the world moving around me. I tend to get a bit self obsessed and narcissistic and I find it really grounding to just sit back and realize every person I see moving through their day has a life just as complex and important as my own. Sadly enough, I think a lot about baseball as well.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hanging out with friends (games, food, movies) Occasionally I will go out to a bar but usually just to play pool and have a couple drinks. I tend to shy away from the really packed, loud places and prefer a low key or kind of whole in the wall place.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
When I go out to karaoke with friends I use the excuse that I am tone deaf when truth be told I am just a really bad singer.

I am afraid of revolving doors being pushed too hard behind me. I love going to Chicago to visit friends, but HATE those doors. One of these days I am going to get crushed to death by one. They make me seriously nervous.
