"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."
I think that's the best way to describe what I'm looking for on here.
I'm an ENTJ if that matters to you (and even if it doesn't!). Swallow that cum grano salis, though. People tell me that I'm a warm and friendly person, which is more than can be said for some ENTJs -- Hillary Clinton, I'm looking at you! You, too, Sauron.
Interests: Most things interest me, but I have a soft spot for politics, religion, philosophy, metaphysics, hiking, camping, biking, kayaking, sailing, photography, cooking, fine dining, natural living, etc.
The long-term plan is to start my own business, which will combine elements of boutique hospitality, agriculture, and environmentalism into a sustainability retreat featuring field-to-fork restaurants, low-impact guestrooms, and educational workshops.
I also want to write books on the topic of food and freedom -- specifically regarding the relationship between authoritative power structures and access to healthy and ethically produced food. I'm particularly interested in the potential of small farms to serve as an opt-out from various pernicious and entrenched social and economic institutions.
Or maybe I'll just write a lengthy treatise on peat moss and call it my Sphagnum Opus.
-Sneezing extraordinarily loudly
-Conversation. As long as you give me something to work with.
-Telling "dad jokes"
-Writing letters by hand (why doesn't anyone do this anymore?)
-Comparing sex to ice cream (press on, fearless reader)
In all seriousness, though, I imagine it's probably either my candor or my quirky sense of humor. Both have a tendency to take people by surprise at first, but if you can get down with my weirdness, I'll probably ask you to marry me (don't worry, I'll wait until AT LEAST the third date).
I have too many favorites, so let's go with most recent:
-The Safety Net by Heinrich Böll
-Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride
-Seeing Like a State by James C. Scott
-You Can Farm by Joel Salatin
-The Law by Frédéric Bastiat
-Anatomy of the State by Murray Rothbard
-1984 by George Orwell
-Island by Aldous Huxley
-The Dispossessed by Ursula K. LeGuin
-Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
-Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
-Holy Cows and Hog Heaven by Joel Salatin
-On Anarchism by Noam Chomsky
-No Treason by Lysander Spooner
-Animal Farm by George Orwell
-The White Castle by Orhan Pamuk
-The Red and The Black by Stendhal
-Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift
-Candide by Voltaire
-Proposed Roads to Freedom by Bertrand Russell
-Satyricon by Petronius
-We Took to the Woods by Louise Dickinson Rich
Currently reading: Anarchy, State, and Utopia by Robert Nozick, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, and Soil, Grass, and Cancer by André Voisin.
Movies and Shows
I enjoy films that address the darker, more tumultuous aspects of society and the human psyche. Inception, The Black Swan, Pan's Labyrinth, and Silence of the Lambs spring to mind.
Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Suits.
Everything from Aine Minogue (celtic harp) to Ellis Paul (folk) to Metallica (metal... duh). I really like Poets of the Fall, Florence + The Machine, and Tool/A Perfect Circle (to name but a few).
Currently digging Gimme All Your Love by Alabama Shakes
The details sidebar should have an option for "strictly soup." I don't think you would believe me if I told you how much soup I consume. I also am known to experiment in the kitchen, with results such as: coffee brined pork chop with maple spice butternut squash puree, steamed broccolini, and candied orange peel; prosciutto wrapped hake with dill and chanterelles; and French cut roasted half chicken with braised fennel and an anjou pear gastrique served atop a local arugula salad in a lemon-lavender vinaigrette. I'm basically trying to cook my way into your pants.
Oh, and I raise almost all of the meat that I consume, and some of the vegetables.
-The pursuit of liberty
-The sound that sleeping cats make when you pet them
-Nouns, adjectives, and verbs; especially when separated by oxford commas
-The failures of authoritarian high modernism
-The relationships between people and their food
-The impacts that technology has conferred upon society
-The solipsistic limitations of reason (and whether they matter)
-Objectively terrible puns, like: Kim Jong-un has no Seoul.
Size matters. I'll only sleep with you if you have an enormous...
...you are an intellectual but not a douche-wagon about it.
...this story resonates with you: http://tinyurl.com/jwlv76g
Or, y'know, if you feel like it. I'm not the boss of you, though I may not respond if I get an eleutherophobic vibe from your profile.
(On that note, there are major bonus points available for being a voluntaryist/anarchist/abolitionist, and minor bonus points for being a libertarian or minarchist.)
